Mike Myers
Michael John Myers (Scarborough, Ontario, May 25, 1963) is a Canadian actor, screenwriter, film producer and comedian. He has performed on Saturday Night Live (1988-1995), Wayne's World, in all three Austin Powers films and has provided the voice in the Shrek film series.
Early Years
He is the youngest son of Myers, an encyclopedia salesman and former British Army cook, and Alice “Bunny” Myers, a data processor and former actress. Both English citizens (the actor himself has a British passport) who immigrated to Canada, from the port city of Liverpool. The family also has Scottish and Irish ancestry.
Myers reportedly has Canadian, American and British citizenship. She first studied at Sir John A. Macdonald Collegiate Institute in Scarborough, and then graduated from Stephen Leacock Collegiate Institute, also in Scarborough.
Career
Myers' first contact with the audiovisual world was his childhood appearances in various commercials. During his time at Stephen Leacock High School, Mike took dance lessons and began creating comedic characters.
In the early 1980s, Myers performed with Toronto's Second City Comedy troupe, and later formed a professional partnership with Neil Mullarkey, with whom Myers toured England performing multiple comedic performances.
Returning to Canada, Myers was discovered by Martin Short when he was performing with the Second City Comedy. Short proposed that he join the television program "Saturday Night Live", a popular showcase for the comedic talent of its protagonists.
In 1989, Mike, an actor and skit writer, would receive an Emmy Award for his screenplays.
His first film appearance came that same year when he appeared in “Elvis Stories” (1989), a parody short about the disappearance of Elvis shot by Ben Stiller.
The feature debut starring Myers was the zany comedy “Wayne’s World ¡Qué Desparrame!” (1992), a film directed by Penelope Spheeris, co-starring Dana Carvey, and written by the Canadian interpreter himself.
Later, he starred with Nancy Travis in Thomas Schlamme's romantic comedy “A Bride Like No Other” (1993), and reprized the role of Wayne Campbell in Wayne's World 2 (1993), a directed title by Stephen Surjik.
After four years away from the big screen, Mike Myers would successfully return playing the role of “Austin Powers: International Man of Mystery” (1997), a parody of the James Bond films which was directed by Jay Roach and co-starred Elizabeth Hurley.
The series dedicated to the sixties detective would be extended by “Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me” (1999), with the presence of Heather Graham, and “Austin Powers in Goldmember ” (2002), film with Beyoncé Knowles as the female figure. All the films in the series were directed by Roach. He would also have a participation playing this character in the music video for Madonna's song Beautiful Stranger in 1999.
Another big win for Myers, who owns a production company called Eric's Boy (named after his father, who died of Alzheimer's in 1991), would be “Shrek” (2001), a film animation for which he voiced the main character. In 2002, Myers was featured in Britney Spears' music video Boys.
He reprized this role in Shrek 4-D (a theme park ride) in 2003, Shrek 2 in 2004, and Shrek the Third > along with a Christmas special of Shrek The Halls, both in 2007. In 2010 Myers returned for the final film in the Shrek series, Shrek Forever After.
In "The Love Guru" (2008) played Pitka, an Indian-raised American who tries to use his experiences with spiritual gurus to create a self-help practice in his country.
Myers received the MTV Generation Award in June 2007, becoming the second Canadian to win the award (following Jim Carrey in 2006), for bringing his unique brand of comedy to the big and small screens alike.
His directorial debut, Supermensch: The Legend of Shep Gordon, was selected to be screened in the Gala Presentation section at the 2013 Toronto International Film Festival.
Personal life
Myers began dating actress, comedian, and writer, Robin Ruzan, in the late 1980s after meeting at a hockey game in Chicago, during which Myers caught a puck and used the incident as an icebreaker to strike up an argument. conversation with Ruzan. The couple married on May 22, 1993, and Myers later referred to Ruzan as "his muse of hers."The couple filed for divorce in December 2005.
In 2006, it was confirmed that Kelly Tisdale and Myers were dating. Myers and Tisdale were married in New York in a secret ceremony in the fall of 2010. They have three children: Spike Alan (b. 2011), Sunday Molly (b. 2014), and Paulina Kathleen (b. 2015).
