Miguel Reina Santos (Córdoba, Spain, January 21, 1946) is a former Spanish international footballer and sports councilor in the Córdoba city council since 2013. He played as a goalkeeper and his first team was the Córdoba C.F.

He is the father of the world champion soccer player, Pepe Reina, who plays for Villarreal CF.

Career

He began playing in the youth ranks of Córdoba CF until 1964, the year in which he made his debut with the first team. He debuted in the First Division on October 11, 1964 in the match Córdoba 2: 0 Elche.

After spending two seasons at Córdoba, in 1966 he signed for F. C. Barcelona. In his first season in the new club he has almost no opportunities, he only plays two league games. That year he achieved a runner-up finish in the league, repeating runner-up finishes in the 67-68, 70-71 and 72-73 seasons. With Barcelona he won two Generalissimo Cups and the Fairs Champions Cup, a championship that would grant the Barça team the Fairs Cup in ownership. In his last season at the club (72-73) Reina won the Zamora Trophy by conceding 21 goals in 34 League games. Furthermore, that season he managed to go 824 minutes without conceding a goal, becoming the Barcelona goalkeeper who has remained unbeaten for the longest time, until November 1, 2011, when Víctor Valdés surpassed that mark. In the 70-71 season, as coach of the Vic Buckingham team, he fielded Reina only in the games that were played outside the Camp Nou, since in the Barcelona fiefdom Reina was booed by the fans for an unfortunate performance by the goalkeeper in a match against F. C. Dinamo Moscow.

After spending seven seasons at FC Barcelona, in which he played 111 league games, in 1973 he signed for Atlético de Madrid, achieving a runner-up finish in the League in his first season, in which he also participated in the final of the European Cup, which his team lost against FC Bayern Munich, and in the following season he won an Intercontinental Cup with his club. In the 76-77 season, he won a Copa del Rey and a League with Atlético de Madrid, in which Reina also won the Zamora Trophy by conceding 29 goals in 30 games.

Reina retired from the playing field at the end of the 79-80 season. He played a total of 312 games in the First Division.

In the 2011 municipal elections he was part of the Popular Party (PP) candidacy for mayor of Córdoba. In 2013, he was appointed sports councilor for the popular party in the Córdoba City Council, after replacing Eva Pedraza.
