Luis Miguel González Bosè (Panama City, April 3, 1956), known as Miguel Bosé, is a Spanish musician, singer-songwriter and actor. Apart from the Spanish, he also has the Panamanian, Italian and Colombian nationalities.

He has released 20 studio albums and has sold more than 60 million copies worldwide.

In 2013, he was chosen as Person of the Year by the Latin Recording Academy and at the annual Latin Grammy ceremony. Throughout his career, he has recorded duets with several international stars, such as Ana Torroja, Above &; Beyond Julieta Venegas, Shakira, Alejandro Sanz, Laura Pausini, Ricky Martin, Fonseca, Juanes, Ximena Sariñana, Marco Antonio Solís, Natalia Lafourcade, Ha*Ash and Los Ángeles Azules, among others.

He has also dabbled in literary works, as a presenter and jury on television, and has become involved in acting, making his debut in a film by Italian director Duccio Tessari. His work as an actor stands out in High Heels (1991), Sitting on the edge of the morning, with dangling feet (1978), Crazy Thing (1981), The Dragon Knight (1985), Queen Margot (1994), Cursed Doormat (1995), Libertarias (1995) and Turn on my passion (1995), among others.

Biography

Beginnings

His parents were Luis Miguel Dominguín (1926-1996), a Spanish bullfighter belonging to a family with a long bullfighting tradition, and Lucia Bosé (1931-2020), an Italian actress and model and winner of the 1947 Miss Italy pageant.

The couple's first child, Miguel, was born on Tuesday, April 3, 1956 at the San Fernando Hospital Clinic in Panama City, where the family was staying for work reasons of the father, who wanted his son to be born in Colombia, where the family lived, but the delivery was brought forward. A year later, his sister Lucía Dominguín was born, and on November 5, 1960, her sister Paola. Miguel Bosé was baptized on July 12 as Luis Miguel González Bosé, and his godfather was the filmmaker Luchino Visconti. When he was older, he changed his name twice, first to Miguel Dominguín Bosé and then to Miguel Bosé Dominguín.

She grew up in an environment surrounded by art and culture, since her parents were close friends of Pablo Picasso and Ernest Hemingway. He himself defines himself as a "lonely child" growing up surrounded by women (mother and sisters) who took refuge in reading. He studied at the French Lyceum in Madrid and in the early 1970s took dance classes in London with Lindsay Kemp, in Paris with Martha Graham and with Alvin Ailey in New York. It was in those years that he decided to call himself Miguel Bosé.

1973-1983: Debut and first studio albums

In 1973, he fully entered music, being the Spanish singer-songwriter Camilo Sesto who composed his first songs, and in 1977 he signed a contract with CBS, under the international label Epic. That same year, his first album and the song "Linda", a version of the eponymous song from "I Pooh", along with others such as "Amiga" and "Mi libertad", the latter by Claudio Baglioni, of great popularity in Spain and Latin America, which would consecrate him as a mass artist. In 1978, with the second album Miguel Bosé and with the song "Anna", he began an international career with strong projection in several European countries. The following year saw the light of her album Chicas!, with songs composed and produced by Danilo Vaona, from which one of her greatest hits of that time "Super Supermán" was extracted.

In 1980, Bosé published Miguel, his most important album of this first stage and which contained the singles "Morir de amor" and "Te amaré", which would place him at the top of the charts from numerous countries. "Olympic Games" was one of the most international singles from this album. [citation needed ] On the cover of him he appeared dressed as a bullfighter as a tribute to his father.

With his next work, the album Más allá (1981), Bosé did not achieve the repercussion of previous works and the single "Márchate ya" did not quite fit in with his followers. This mishap led the record company to release the following year a compilation album with all his singles and two unpublished songs, Bravo muchachos (1982), which manages to place Miguel at the top of the charts in Spain, Italy and other European countries. This compilation also contained another unpublished song "They are friends". Around this time, Miguel became godfather of the Mexican group Timbiriche, whose members were Diego Schoening, Sasha Sökol, Thalía, Benny Ibarra, Mariana Garza, Alix Bauer and Paulina Rubio. During his stay in Mexico, he was closely associated with the singer and actress Daniela Romo[citation required] and he made productions with Luis de Llano Macedo.[ citation required]

While his success in Italy was in crescendo and his album Milano-Madrid (1983) accredited it, in Spain his album of that same year, Made In Spain (recorded with compositions made for him by acquaintances of authors related to the Madrid Movida, such as Nacho Cano, Carlos Berlanga and Nacho Canut) did not quite come together.

1984-1989: Bandit, Salamander and XXX

In 1984, the artist decided to take the reins of his career, and redirect his music towards a more mature audience. Haunted by the ghost of the “music for girls” label, Bosé changes his vocal register (much more serious now) and redirects his music towards artist influences and bands such as David Bowie or Depeche Mode. The musical twist is poorly received by the CBS record company (today Sony-BMG), which believes that their product is getting out of hand and becomes uncontrollable. He records, against the will of his record company, Bandido , considered one of his masterpieces. His singles "Sevilla", "Amante bandido" and "Horizonte de las estrellas" top the Spanish and Latin American charts. Although the change places him at the forefront of fashion and times, this new record is not well accepted by Italian followers who preferred the neat image of the good boy of yesteryear over this new, more ambiguous Bosé with a three-day beard., dressed in the popular pants-skirt of that time. The album cover showed a revolutionary Bosé, with his face made up and his hair frizzy in the vein of David Bowie's Aladdin Sane work. It is a stage in which Bosé's image is almost as important as his music. His look modern and sophisticated (half vampire, half alien) and his charisma become his calling card wherever he goes. The artist surrounds himself with an untouchable halo, combining his musical works with sporadic forays into the world of cinema such as The Dragon Knight (the most expensive Spanish film up to that time) or En penumbra .

Bosé in Sanremo, 1988.

The musical path of experimentation and more elaborate production continues for Miguel with the release of his next two albums, already released on Warner Music, his current record company: Salamandra (1986) and XXX (1987). Although Salamandra is a somewhat more complex and intimate continuation of Bandido, with hit singles and repercussions such as "Nena" or "Aire soy", XXX is Bosé's ambitious attempt to conquer the US market. With a much more industrial sound (with production by Tony Mansfield) and more cryptic lyrics, the album is released in the United States with a different cover (in many European countries with the same cover as the Spanish one) and the songs in English. Neither "Lay Down On Me" nor "The Eighth Wonder" would achieve the impact desired by the artist (despite the significant support MTV channel had for the launch of the first song, both in Europe and in the United States, and the fact that count on the prestigious François Kevorkian for the disco remixes, and a new simple version of the second), while its Spanish versions, "Como un lobo" and "Duende", would be successful in Spain and Latin America.[ citation required]

1990-1997: Boys don't cry, Under the sign of Cain and Labyrinth

The early 1990s see the release of his album Los chicos no lloran, which brings him closer to a more commercial sound and provides a more accessible image for all audiences. The album would reap several hits as a single, but it would lose the glamor and sophistication of previous works. The successful tour to present the album would be collected in his next album Directo '90.

In 1993 the album Bajo el signo de Caín was released in the Spanish market, which was later released in English and Italian in 1994. The album is a return to the path of experimentation and reflects a remarkable artistic maturity, creating a sound bridge with XXX, but even more intimate and innovative and loaded with an almost cinematic environmental beauty. "Si tú no vuelves" and "Nada particular" were the most successful singles from the album. Once again, a successful tour would return Bosé to the stage, to continue with her appearance in the important French production, Queen Margot .

In 1996, Laberinto (album by Miguel Bosé) would be released, a complex follow-up to Bajo el signo de Caín, even more experimental and cryptic, which only contained a purely commercial song to use, «La autoradio sings". The album would be reissued including three more commercial songs, including the single "Este mundo va", to thus ensure its sales success.

1998-2004: Commercial pop, Sereno and I'm dying for you

In 1998, he released an album of covers, Once maneras de donner un sombrero, his personal tribute to some of the most important songs in Latino culture in his opinion. Following the path of complex production, the work exudes beauty in its simple Wall and I only think of you. A year later, he released a record of hits from his last twelve years of his career (1986-1998) under the name Lo mejor de Bosé, which included two unpublished songs, "Hacer por hacer" and " There is not even a heart that is worth it", along with two new versions of "Bandit Lover" and "Babe". Another hit album is also coming out for Italy with the name Best of, with Italian versions of “Este mundo va” and “Hacer por hacer”. In April of the same year, she appeared at an awards ceremony with his friend Alejandro Sanz, where they both presented the same dresses and hairstyles. Miguel could barely walk and was wearing a back brace.

After a period marked by the presentation of the program Séptimo de caballería for TVE, in the year 2000 Bosé embarked on a very long tour, Girados, together with the former singer of the group Mecano, Ana Torroja, which will take them to many cities in Spain and Latin America, reviewing the extensive musical career of both artists and performing many of their songs as a duet. The tour was published in a double CD recorded live entitled Girados en concierto, adding an unpublished single performed by both, "Corazones".

On November 6, 2001, Miguel publishes his new studio album, his first since 1998, Sereno, a more commercial album compared to his previous works and where some unknown stages of his life are reflected.. This album would get great recognition all over the world, and songs like Gulliver and Morenamía are remembered to this day.

Three years after the publication of Sereno, Miguel presented the ambitious symphonic album Por vos muero, in which he collaborated with various musicians and composers, including Alejandro Sanz -del that he became a compadre, since he was godfather to his daughter Manuela's baptism. The album, recorded in La Cuadra, Miguel's house, and under the production of Chris Cameron and Nicolás Sorín, is a kind of personal tribute to the world from cinema, to soundtracks and to the classical training he received as a child. The album was presented live in very few cities in Spain and Mexico, with different symphony orchestras.

2005-2008: Conversion to synth pop, Velvetina and Papito

In 2005, Velvetina came out, a work that focuses on electronics, dance, trip hop and chillout, recorded at the same time as Por vos muero. Velvetina presents 13 new songs composed and produced by Antonio Cortés and Miguel himself, whose lyrics mix different languages. The DVD that accompanies one of the editions of the disc includes 13 video clips that visually illustrate each of the songs. These video creations have been directed by young filmmakers who enjoyed total creative freedom. The design of the album and the image of Velvetina have been made by the designer David Delfín. The "Down With Love" video was censored for its "high erotic content" in Mexico.

On Tuesday, March 20, 2007, Papito goes on sale, where he compiles his greatest hits singing them as a duet with several singers: Shakira, Julieta Venegas, Laura Pausini, Paulina Rubio, Ricky Martin, Sasha Sökol, among others. He published a special edition on his album, inviting Antonio Vega (who died in 2009), Mina Mazzini, Rosa León, Benny Ibarra, and other international artists, achieving success from the first week of sales. The Papitour tour brings together a large number of people throughout Latin America, Spain and a concert in Italy.[citation required]

Among the awards and merits obtained are: a quadruple platinum record and thirteen weeks as No. 1 in sales in Spain; best-selling album in Spain during 2007 and the second of 2008; triple platinum album in Mexico, where it remained 15 consecutive weeks at No. 1 in sales; gold record in the United States, with close to 120,000 copies sold; platinum record in Chile and Venezuela and gold record in Argentina, Colombia and Ecuador;[citation required] in Italy it has received the platinum record, staying for more than 6 weeks at No. 1 with more than 120,000 copies sold.[citation needed] The album has sold more than 4,000,000 copies worldwide.[citation required]

The tour album Papitour and was awarded the Ondas award for the best album of the year 2007. The tour, one of the longest of his career, lasted approximately 2 and a half years.[citation required] On February 21, 2008, during his presentation at the Viña del Mar Festival, the place where he was born in 1981, he announced that after finishing Papitour will never sing his repertoire again, which does not mean a retirement from music but a short rest, to dedicate himself to other activities, such as literature, and explore the music of Velvetina, according to his own words. Bosé won a Silver Torch and a new Goldor Torch; although the public demanded that he be awarded the Silver Gull, that did not happen.

2010-2012: Cardio and Papitwo

In 2010, he released Cardio his eighteenth studio album. In Greek it means heart and it has been recorded and mixed at PKO Studios (Madrid). It is entirely produced, arranged, written and composed by Miguel and Nicolás Sorin. On this album different Migueles are shown who tell their different stories. The album also had a special edition, which contains the unpublished song "Santo veneno", the first single in Italy "Per Te" (Italian version of "Por ti") and an edition with an extra disc, which contains remixes of songs from the album by DJs like Armin Van Buuren, Above & Beyond, Tiesto, among others. Later, he released Cardio Tour, a CD/DVD of the tour of the album Cardio. It was recorded in Madrid on September 16, 2010. The concert had a different concept from Papitour, since in this the fundamental thing was the scenery, the assembly, the lights, the huge LED screens and the choreographies carried out by him and his choristers.

After many clues given by the singer on the social network Twitter, the album Papitwo is released on September 4, 2012, a continuation of his successful album Papito, renewing well-known successes of his career and counting again with artists such as Juanes, Bimba Bosé and Alejandro Sanz, adding names such as Pablo Alborán, Juan Luis Guerra, Tiziano Ferro, Malú, among others. The Spanish actress Penélope Cruz, known for His performances in Hollywood collaborated on the unpublished song "Say goodbye to us", composed by Cruz's brother for Bosé. The album has two versions, a simple one with 14 hits rearranged and recorded as a duet with notable artists and another deluxe version, with 14 more hits that Bosé has recorded throughout his life for other artists such as Hombres G with "Lo noto", Raphael with "Morir de amor", Natalia Lafourcade with "Si no pueden quererte", Spanknox with "Wrong in the right way”, among others. The album was released simultaneously with the tour called in the same way, which began in Spain and took him to Latin America.

2013-2016: Amo and Bosé MTV Unplugged

On February 26, 2013, she performed at the 2013 Viña del Mar Song Festival where she sang "Morena mía" with the Chilean and American singer Francisca Valenzuela and "Puede que" together with Pablo Alborán belonged to Papitwo, in what was the ninth participation in said contest, sweeping all the prizes and being one of the most awarded artists of said festival in that edition. On June 17 of the same year, two days before a concert in Lima, there was a slip-up with the Peruvian press when, at a press conference, some journalists asked him questions that he described as silly; he rebuked them by giving some "journalism lectures". The next day, the Peruvian singer Gianmarco supported Bosé through his Facebook account, stating that finally someone says things as they are and urged journalists to prepare a little more.

He was chosen as Person of the Year by the Latin Recording Academy and at the annual Latin Grammy ceremony, and honored by his friends and colleagues at a concert prior to the gala in Las Vegas. Personalities such as Carlos Vives, Santiago Cruz, Gian Marco, Carlos Santana, Ricky Martin, Pablo Alborán, Ximena Sariñana, Julieta Venegas, among others, performed their greatest hits. Bosé himself, visibly moved, took the stage to perform his hit "Nena". At the ceremony, he was presented with the award after his impeccable and applauded presentation where he performed a medley of his hits "Morena mia" in a duet with Julieta Venegas, "Si tu no vuelves" in a duet with Shakira, "I will love you" in a duet with Laura Pausini, among other songs. The award was given to him by his friend Ricky Martin, to whom Bosé gave the same award years ago. On November 4, 2014, he released a new album entitled Amo, where he conceptualized the love of knowledge and the unknown, in the same way, he made his Amo Tour, a musical show with innovative technology in addition to rescuing songs from his repertoire, on this tour Bosé changed his clothes and his "look" opting for robes and long hair.

In 2016, MTV announced that Bosé would be the next star to record an Unplugged. Bosé wrote on his Twitter account that he had never disconnected and that it was the only thing he needed to do in his career. The concert, recorded in Mexico on May 12, 2016, had the Colombians Fonseca and Juanes as guests., the Mexican Ximena Sariñana, as well as Marco Antonio Solís, Sasha Sokol, Natalia Lafourcade, Benny Ibarra and Pablo Alborán. The members of Maná Álex González and Sergio Vallín interpreted "Nothing particular" by his side. Bosé did not leave out hits like "Nena", "Amante bandido" or "Si tú no vuelves" and performed two unpublished songs: "Tell me what I will say", a bachata gifted by Juan Luis Guerra, and "I will be", a song he composed to his four children. The album was released in September in a CD+DVD edition and the concert was broadcast on MTV. On October 14 of that year, he collaborated with and was part of the album De plaza en plaza, by Los Ángeles Azules, with the song "Las maravillas de la vida".

2017-present: Estaré Tour and tenth participation in the Viña del Mar Festival

In January 2017 he began his tour "I will be there", thus completing 40 years of musical career, said tour based on MTV Unplugged began in Mexico, and later it was presented in different countries of America and in Spain, the tour lasted just over a year, on the tour he began to be heard speaking somewhat hoarsely, finally on February 20, 2018, Miguel Bosé performed for the tenth time at the Viña del Mar International Song Festival, where he won the two awards given by the public, the silver and gold seagull, as well as a special recognition as Icon Artist of the Festival, which consisted of a collage that was mocked by social networks. The award finally stayed in Viña del Mar, since Bosé did not take it with him due to its great weight. On stage he sang part of the list of songs from his Estaré tour, his most popular singles, and invited the American duo Ha*Ash to sing, who The song "Si tú no vuelves" also participated in the festival.

For the rest of 2018, Bosé drew attention for his emaciated state of health. He looked increasingly hoarse and tired. This situation had already begun to be noticed in the performance of the Viña Festival and was accentuated when Bosé had to present one of the categories of the 2018 Latin Grammy Awards. On June 8 of the same year he was part of the new album Esto si es cumbia, by the Mexican group Los Ángeles Azules, in a new version, this time cumbia, of their song "Morir de amor". On November 11, he was invited to the National Auditorium of Mexico, to the concert of the American duo Ha*Ash, where they sang their song "Si tú no vuelves" (2019) whose song was part of the album Ha*Ash: En vivo, and was released as a single and reached the first position in Mexico. Political activism and philanthropy

Political Activism

During the first half of 2019, Miguel Bosé has made headlines for his commitment to the crisis in Venezuela. On February 22 of that, he participated in the Venezuela Aid Live event, in which artists such as Maluma and Juanes participated, and caused controversy by referring to Michelle Bachelet (former president of Chile, human rights commissioner for the UN and with whom Bosé himself collaborated in his electoral campaign in 2005) saying that he should "move his buttocks" and "come to Venezuela for a damn time" to verify the conditions in which the people of the country live.

The tension grew in the following months, with constant messages from Bosé on social networks urging Bachelet to visit Venezuela, some more angry than others. In April he published two ironic videos on Twitter: one in which he pretended to have nightmares with the ex-president, and another in which he looks for her in a dark room with a light. He has even traveled to Mexico City to look for her at her hotel, failing in the attempt. All this "persecution" from Bosé to Bachelet has caused the bewilderment of the media and the ridicule of many fans.

Philanthropy

América Latina en Acción Solidaria (ALAS) is a foundation made up of various personalities from the artistic milieu and civil society, whose mission is to improve the health and education of children in Latin America through awareness generation and social programs. In this association, Bosé is president of the council of activists.

On Sunday, September 20, 2009, in the presentation of the second version of the concert Peace without Borders, he participated together with Silvio Rodríguez, Amaury Pérez, the group led by Juan Formell, Olga Tañón, Juanes, creator of the event, Carlos Varela, Danny Rivera, among other Ibero-American artists.

This show took place in the Plaza de la Revolución, in Havana, Cuba, with a crowd of 1,150,000 spectators, according to Miguel Bosé's own appreciation. Previously, he participated in the Peace without Borders concert in 2008, together with other artists such as Alejandro Sanz, Ricardo Montaner, Juanes, Juan Fernando Velasco, Juan Luis Guerra and Carlos Vives "Corazón Partio" in an improvised setting on the Simón Bolívar international bridge that joins the border cities of San José de Cúcuta (Colombia) and San Antonio del Táchira (Venezuela) to avoid a war between the governments of both countries, and additionally, Ecuador.

Private and family life

In 1996, his father, Luis Miguel Dominguín, died at the age of 69 due to heart failure that caused a stroke. Three years later, he was in a car accident with his friend Rebecca de Alba. Rebecca only had bruises, but Miguel was seriously injured. His mother, actress and model Lucía Bosé, died in March 2020 from pneumonia, at the beginning of the pandemic.

In March 2010, Miguel Bosé received Colombian nationality from then-President Álvaro Uribe, in recognition of his work for peace in Colombia. At the ceremony, Bosé could not contain his tears, arguing that his nationality was due to his father, the bullfighter Luis Miguel Dominguín, since he had spent many years of his adolescence in Medellín. He later joked towards Uribe, asking him if he could vote, saying that he is not very "right-wing", so he was in time to regret it.[citation needed ]

In 2011, their twins Diego and Tadeo were born by surrogacy; seven months later, Ivo and Telmo were born by the same method, with the biological material of Ignacio Palau, a sculptor with whom, according to what was made public in 2018, Bosé had had a loving relationship since 1992 and who, after 26 years of relationship, sued him for the maintenance and custody of his four children.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, Bosé became one of the most active deniers, questioning the effectiveness of masks and other aspects of the virus. Some of his videos have been removed from Youtube and Facebook.
