Meteosat (first generation).

Meteosat are a series of geostationary weather satellites built and launched by ESA, which is operated and developed by the European Organization for the Exploitation of Meteorological Satellites (EUMETSAT). They are in geostationary orbit above the Atlantic Ocean and provide weather information to Africa and Europe; which was put into operation on March 10, 2002

Satellites

First generation

  • Meteosat-1: released on 23 November 1977.
  • Meteosat-2: released on 10 June 1981.
  • Meteosat-3: released on 15 June 1988.
  • Meteosat-4: MOP-1 released on 19 May 1989.
  • Meteosat-5: MOP-2 released on 2 March 1991.
  • Meteosat-6: MOP-3 released on 20 November 1993.
  • Meteosat-7: MOP-4 released on 3 September 1997.

Second generation

  • Meteosat-8: MSG-1 released on 28 August 2002.
  • Meteosat-9: MSG-2 released on 22 December 2005.
  • Meteosat-10: MSG-3 released on 5 July 2012.
  • Meteosat-11: MSG-4 released on July 15, 2015.
