Merengue house
The Merengue house (called in some places Electronic Merengue, Hip-hop Merengue or electronic mambo), is a genre created by Dominicans living in New York, United States, that mixes modern Dominican merengue with American House and is sung with rap vocals, in the merengue style. They were also characterized by using parts of dance or House songs as, for example, in the Sandy & Papo "It's time to dance" with the chorus of "Push the feeling on" (from Nightcrawlers) or in the song "Jaws" using the one from the disco genre song "Got to Be Real" (by Cheryl Lynn).
Even though it was not his rhythm, the first sample of Merengue Hip-Hop was performed by Wilfrido Vargas with "El Jardinero" (1984). Later, the exclusive pioneer group in this subgenre was Proyecto Uno, founded by Nelson Zapata; later followed by Zona 7, Los Ilegales and Sandy & Papo, the last two brought him to the peak of popularity in Latin America. After its peak in the 90's, it was updated with the fusion of more rhythms, just as the group Fulanito did, which added the accordion used in the Merengue Tícola or Perico Ripiao. The singers of this musical style are mainly Dominicans living in New York.
