Mere (ˈmɛrɛ) is a type of Maori fighting mace that It is also used as a symbol of authority. The mere is one of the three types of patu. It is the one that shows the greatest simplicity. It is shaped like a paddle and is flat and wide at the end with which it is struck. It has three or four grooves in the handle along with a hole through which a string or strap is passed to attach it to the wrist.

They are usually made from pounamu.
