The media in Chile have different thoughts, editorial lines and culture. Television, radio and newspapers, the traditional mass media, have recently been joined by the Internet as a new means of communication in Chile.

History

The first television transmission was made on October 5, 1957 by the Television Cooperative of the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Valparaiso UCV Televisión. However, it was not until the broadcasts of the 1962 Soccer World Cup, held in Chile, that television became a Mass Communication Media (MCM).

In 1970, a law promulgated that only the State and universities could have a television concession. It was modified in 1990, with the arrival of democracy.
