Massimo D'Alema
Massimo D'Alema (Rome, April 20, 1949) is an Italian politician. He was Minister of Foreign Affairs and President of the Council of Ministers.
Biography
Massimo d'Alema was born in Rome on April 20, 1949. Married to Linda Giuva.
Political career
In his youth he was general secretary of the Italian Communist Youth Federation, youth of the Italian Communist Party and later leader of the PCI.
He belongs to the center-left of Italy and is part of the Democratic Party. Previously he was in the Left Democrats, of which he was general secretary from 1994 to 1998.
President of the Government of the Italian Republic from October 21, 1998 to April 25, 2000, succeeded Romano Prodi in office and was succeeded by Giuliano Amato. The main problem with him at the head of the Italian executive was that he did not come to power as the winner of an election, but as a result of a parliamentary pact.
In 2006 he was appointed by Prodi as Minister of Foreign Affairs of Italy, performing this role until 2008, when he was replaced by Franco Frattini.
Hostile to the political line of Matteo Renzi, which he considers too right-wing, he left the Democratic Party, which he helped found, to join the social democratic Article One party in 2017.
Teaching
Since 2018 he has been an extraordinary professor at Link Campus University.
