Marshall (Texas)
Marshall is a city located in Harrison County in the US state of Texas. In the 2010 Census it had a population of 23,523 inhabitants and a population density of 306.23 people per km².
History
It was founded in 1841, under the Republic of Texas. Marshall is an important cultural, educational, and political center of the eastern part of the state. The city is famous in the United States due to its historical importance regarding the Civil War, the railroad and the civil rights movement, as well as for the ceramics industry (it is the self-proclaimed " World Capital of Ceramics"). Every year in December a festival of lights is held.
Geography
Marshall is located at the coordinates 32°32′21″N 94°21′11″W / 32.53917, -94.35306. According to the United States Census Bureau, Marshall has a total area of 76.81 km², of which 76.65 km² is land and (0.22%) 0.17 km² is water.
Demographics
As of the 2010 census, there were 23,523 people residing in Marshall. The population density was 306.23 inhabitants/km². Of the population of 23,523, Marshall was 47.96% White, 38.34% African American, 0.81% Native American, 0.79% Asian, 0.04% Pacific Islander, 10.38% other races, and 1.68 % belonged to two or more races. Of the total population, 16.99% were Hispanic or Latino of any race.
