Maria Lucia Fernandez

María Lucía Fernández Johnson (Bogotá, October 14, 1968) is a well-known Colombian journalist and news presenter. She works as a presenter in the central broadcast of Noticias Caracol , being the main presenter of said newscast. She is also the presenter of the journalistic program Septimo Día of Caracol Televisión.

Professional career

She studied, firstly, at the Liceo Segovia, and then studied Social Communication at the Pontificia Universidad Javeriana in Bogotá, graduating with the thesis Children's Television in Colombia: Three Steps Back, Two Forward . She financed said career from her modeling activities for Stock Models.She then tried to venture into the Noticiero de Siete for the first time, but due to her work commitments she had to decline the offer.

Her television debut was with the magazine Panorama in 1991. Later she was substitute presenter of QAP Noticias under the direction of María Isabel Rueda and María Elvira Samper. In 1995, she started presenting 7:30 Caracol, together with Margarita Ortega and later with Claudia Hoyos. When Caracol Televisión went from being a programmer to a television channel in 1998, Fernández held the position of presenter for Caracol Noticias (now Noticias Caracol), first on the midday news broadcast, together with Adriana Amat, and since 2001, when she replaced María Cristina Uribe, on the central broadcast of the newscast, he went on to present said space first together with Isaac Nessim, and currently with Jorge Alfredo Vargas. On the other hand, she is co-host of the television program Séptimo día since May 1, 2011, replacing Silvia Corzo, from May 2011 to December 2018 she presented the political section of the newscast Código Caracol, also substituting Silvia Corzo,

At the time, he ventured into radio broadcasting during the broadcast of the morning news on Caracol Radio together with Darío Arizmendi until his resignation in 2004, due to the appointment of Ricardo Alarcón Gaviria to the presidency of the entity. Noted as a presenter of Noticias Caracol, not only for her extensive career in this newscast (since it was created in 1995), but also for her interviews with well-known figures in Colombian politics and public life.

Personal life and public image

Her first marriage was to Juan Castañeda, from whom her sons Juan Martín (b. 1993) and Lorenzo (b. 1998) were born. After her divorce from him and with professional success in journalism, María Lucía married Ricardo Alarcón in 2002. She is a follower of the Millonarios soccer team.

In 2004, she was awarded as best news presenter at the India Catalina Awards on behalf of Noticias Caracol but she did not attend the ceremony due to the withdrawal of the channel due to the declaration of void to the category of Best leading actor. Subsequently, the Colombian Association of Announcers chose her in recognition of her career as a news and chronicle presenter in the Gloria Valencia de Castaño category as best presenter.
