Maria Kinsky of Wchinitz and Tettau (born Marie Aglaë Bonaventura Theresia Kinská z Vchynic a Tetova; Prague, April 14, 1940 - Grabs, August 21, 2021) was the wife of John Adam II and, therefore, Princess Consort of Liechtenstein from her husband's accession to the throne, in 1989, until her death, in 2021. By marriage she was also Countess Consort of Rietberg and Duchess Consort of Troppau and Jägerndorf. She was Countess Kinsky of Wchinitz and Tettau from her birth until 1967 (the year she married).

She was the second Countess Kinsky of Wchinitz and Tettau married to a sovereign prince of Liechtenstein after Countess Francis Kinsky of Wchinitz and Tettau, consort of Prince Louis II of Liechtenstein, great-great-grandmother of the current sovereign prince.

Biography

She was the daughter of Count Fernando Carlos Kinsky of Wchinitz y Tettau (1907-1969) and his wife, Countess Enriqueta Carolina of Ledebur-Wicheln (1910-2002).

She was baptized with the names Marie Aglaë Bonaventura Theresia, in Spanish María Aglaé Buenaventura Teresa.

Her family fled the Soviet troops that invaded the Protectorate of Bohemia and Moravia in 1945 and settled in Germany, where she was educated between 1946 and 1950 at the primary school in Ering am Inn, later in the Cloister del Bosque, in Baden-Württemberg, attended by the Sisters of Saint Lioba Korte. In 1957 Countess Mary went to England to perfect her command of English. She also spent some time in Paris improving her knowledge of French.

Until he got engaged in 1965, he worked as an art salesman for a printing company in Dachau, Germany. In fact, this town was the home of many artists during the late 19th and early 19th centuries. font-variant:small-caps;text-transform:lowercase">XX.

On August 18, 2021, Princess Mary suffered a stroke. On August 21, 2021, at 4:43 p.m. m., she died in the Grabs cantonal hospital in neighboring Switzerland.

Marriage and offspring

On July 30, 1967, she married her distant cousin, Prince John Adam II (born 1945; five years her junior), in the Parish Church of St. Florian, in Vaduz. Later, said parish church was declared Cathedral on December 12, 1997 by Pope John Paul II.

During their honeymoon they traveled to Paris and Mexico.

The couple had four children:

  • The Crown Prince Louis, born on June 11, 1968; Married with Princess Sophie Elisabeth of Bavaria (born in 1967), with whom he has three sons and a daughter: Joseph Wenzel (born in 1995), Marie Caroline (born in 1996), Georg Antonius (born in 1999) and Nikolaus Sebastian (born in 2000).
  • Prince Maximilian, born on 16 May 1969. Married with Panamanian Angela Gisela Brown (born in 1958) with whom he has a son, Prince Alfonso de Liechtenstein (born in 2001);
  • Prince Constantine, born on March 15, 1972. Married with the Hungarian countess, Marie Gabriele Kálnoky de Kőröspatak (born in 1975), with whom he has two sons, Moritz Emanuel (born in 2003) and Benedikt Ferdinand (born in 2008), and a daughter, Georgina Maximiliane (born in 2005);
  • Princess Tatiana, born on April 10, 1973. Married with the baron Matthias Philipp de Lattorf (born in 1968), with whom she has two sons and five daughters: Lukas Maria (born in 2000), Elisabeth Maria (born in 2002), Maria Teresa (born in 2004), Camilla Katharina (born in 2005), Anna Pia (born in 2007), Sophia Katharina (born in 2009) and Maximilian Maria (born in 2011).

The treatment given to her is that of Princess Mary, or princess consort, naming her as Her Serene Highness.

The princess was president of the Liechtenstein Red Cross from 1985 to 2015, when she handed over the baton to her daughter-in-law Sofia.

The princess and her husband were involved with the Pfadfinder und Pfadfinderinnen Liechtensteins, PPL (Scouts and Guides of Liechtenstein) movement, in Vaduz.

Between 1983 and 2005, she was also Honorary President of the Orthopedic Assistance Society.
