María de Bohun

María de Bohun was born in 1369, being the youngest of the three daughters of Humphrey de Bohun, VII Count of Hereford, Essex and Northampton -bisnieto del King Eduardo I of England by paternal line- and of Juana Fitzalan -Tataranieta del Rey Enrique III of England for her mother Leonor de Lancaster.

At his father's death on January 16, 1372, the immense states of Bohun's family were divided between Maria and his older sister Leonor -the second daughter, Isabel, had died in childhood in 1369.

Marriage

He married Arundel Castle, in Sussex, on July 27, 1380, with Enrique de Bolingbroke, future Enrique IV of England heir to the Duchy of Lancaster, and that he would use the titles of Count of Northampton and Hereford - elevated to Ducado time later- by the right of his wife.

died when giving birth to his last daughter, in Peterborough Castle on June 4, 1394, five years before her husband assumed the throne as Enrique IV.

of the link with Enrique IV, María had seven children:

  • Henry (1387-1422), king of England.
  • Thomas (1388-1421), Duke of Clarence.
  • John (1389 - 1435), Duke of Bedford, regent of France.
  • Hunfredo (1390 - 1447), Duke of Gloucester, regent of England.
  • White (1392 - 1409), married to Louis III, prince elector palatino.
  • Felipa (1394 - 1430), married to King Erico de Pomerania, king of Denmark, Norway and Sweden.
