Maria Barranco
Dulce nombre de María Magdalena de los Remedios Barranco García (Málaga, June 11, 1961) is a Spanish actress, winner of two Goya Awards for best female supporting performance.
Biography
He was born in Malaga, at the Carlos Haya hospital on June 11. He studied at IES Los Manantiales (Torremolinos). He began studying Dramatic Art in Malaga, where he participated in various theater groups. She soon moved to Madrid to make her theater debut with Don Mendo's Revenge and later join as an ensemble girl in the Juanito Navarro Magazine Company.
His film debut would occur in 1986 with the feature film Your girlfriend is crazy, by Enrique Urbizu. Soon, her freshness and improvisational quality captivated one of the emerging directors of the 1980s, Pedro Almodóvar, who hired her to work on Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown. Almodóvar's film became a great national and international success, so in 1988 she achieved fame, immediately becoming the revelation actress of the moment, recognition that came from both the public and critics. She is, without a doubt, one of the most qualified young performers for comedy and one of the actresses integrated into the well-known 'Almodóvar Girls'. Later they collaborated together in Átame! (1990) and, according to the actress herself, the man from La Mancha offered her the role of "La Agrado" in All about my mother (1999), finally played by Antonia San Juan.
Throughout his extensive career, he has worked with directors of the stature of Jaime Chávarri, Bigas Luna, Pedro Olea and Fernando Fernán Gómez. He has also worked on some television projects, such as the series Ellas son ai , Señor Alcalde or Ellas y el otro cuerpo .
She has collaborated in more than thirty films and her work has been rewarded, among others, with the following awards: Goya Award for best supporting actress in 1989, for the film Women on the Verge of an Attack of nerves and the same Goya Award in 1990 for the film The Ages of Lulú; At the 1991 Viareggio Black Film Festival she won the award for best actress for the film Everything for Pasta and the award for best actress at the (Miami Hispanic Film Festival) in 1996. for the film Bwana, by Imanol Uribe.
Precisely this last director, Imanol Uribe, was her husband, whom she divorced in 2004.
