Since he was little he was forced to work as an ice cream seller and shoe shiner to help his family after the death of his father, the sports journalist Dino Tinelli (1932-1971).
When he was already a teenager, Marcelo and his mother moved to the capital of the country, Buenos Aires, there he finished his primary studies at a Catholic school, later, he studied secondary school at the Manuel Belgrano school and also, in his time free, he was a lower division soccer player for Buenos Aires soccer clubs such as Defensores de Belgrano and San Telmo.
According to himself, he spent his free time afternoons listening to a well-known sports radio program at that time called La oral deporte, a program that is broadcast to this day on the Argentine radio station. Radio Rivadavia in Buenos Aires, where, years later, he would begin to work as a cadet at that radio station.

In 1975, at the age of 15, Marcelo began his communications career starting on the radio, being a cadet and making sports notes for La oral deporte, on Radio Rivadavia, with the help of his godfather of radio, the remembered sports journalist and radio host José María Muñoz. Two years later, he made his professional debut as a radio host, and from there he worked as a field correspondent in this and other sports and football radio programs.
Some time later, in 1983, he received the opportunity to make his debut on television as a sports journalist and panelist of the remembered miscellaneous and variety program Badía y Compañía, which was broadcast on the television channel El Trece and was hosted by his great friend and television godfather, the renowned and remembered television presenter and also radio host Juan Alberto Badía, both met on the FM radio program, Piedra Libre.

The phenomenon of Videomatch and Ritmo de la Noche (1990-2004)
It was at the beginning of that year, when he was working on the sports magazine El Grafico; He received an offer from the well-known television producer and programming manager of the then new television channel Telefe, Gustavo Yankelevich; who summoned him to host a new sports program type "ESPN sports newscast" for this channel, which is 100% dedicated to sports topics, which is broadcast at midnight every day and which would be called Videomatch.
This offer was made some time after radio host Gustavo Lutteral also refused to host it, as it was a sports program that was broadcast at midnight; and one day before its premiere, on March 1, 1990, Marcelo accepted this proposal and resigned from El Trece after staying there for seven years.
Over time, this sports program at that time began to broadcast first, videos of various sports and sports analysis; and then, when it was a failure, Gustavo appointed Marcelo as his new general producer in addition to being the presenter; and from there, a humorous direction was sought. In 2003, Marcelo bought the renowned AM radio station, Radio Del Plata; and later returned to take charge of Radio Uno until 2007. In the first he hosted first the weekly interview program Mano a mano and then the general interest program Dulce Condena .
On December 27, 2004, Videomatch broadcast its last episode, thus marking its end after 15 seasons and 14 years on Telefe and on television, coinciding with his drastic and fateful departure from the channel along with his team from his production company Ideas del Sur. Tinelli obtained his first two private recognitions, the two Martín Fierro awards: Gold (in 1997) and Platinum (in 2011).
Showmatch, his retirement from the radio and the end of Ideas del Sur (2005-2017)
In 2005, and after the end of Videomatch, Marcelo and his team from his production company moved to the television channel El Nueve, which at that time was managed by media entrepreneur and journalist Daniel Hadad. There, he decided to send all of his programs to that channel. That same year, he began production on a new entertainment program, a spin-off type continuation of Videomatch and with a different style, which would both be hosted and produced by himself. This program would be called Showmatch, and would premiere on April 5, with its first and only season on El Nueve. Between that same year and 2007, he teamed up with producer, manager and also businessman Daniel Grinbank and converted Radio Uno into Radio Spika until its end that year.
In September of that same year, he signed an alliance with the actor and producer Adrián Suar, and moved all the Ideas del Sur programs to another channel, El Trece, where Marcelo began his career on television some time ago as a panelist. sports from Badía y Compañía and that, after 16 years, he would return to this channel. These controversial sections of dance, singing, figure skating, musicals and mixed talents, which have caused more than one controversy during their years of transmission within this program, since they have received a million negative reviews from various debates on various television entertainment programs in your country, hundreds of complaints from various celebrities and thousands of complaints on social networks.
In addition, they made their own talent segments such as Baila Argentina (Dance), Genios de la Argentina (Singing) and Showmatch: La Academia (Mixed talents with celebrities), the latter, like Dancing for a Dream Argentina and other sections, also caused a lot of controversy and became a great television failure due to its low audience, meaning its first break in December 2021 after almost 16 years of broadcast and 15 seasons; and his final goodbye from El Trece after 15 years. In addition to the cancellation of its special humor edition with the members of the Videomatch cast in the midst of the global news about the coronavirus pandemic, after rumors about its supposed contagion by this disease, in 2020.
This television franchise, adding the years of broadcast of its two programs and 30 seasons in total, has become an important phenomenon with great audience results and maintenance for more than 30 years among the most watched television programs, in addition to the important impact throughout Latin America where the program had high recognition until its first break in 2021. In addition, it was brought into book format on its 20th anniversary under the name ofVideomatch & Showmatch: 20 years of history.
At the end of 2008, and after his departure from Radio Uno in the midst of the end of Radio Spika, Marcelo retired from the radio after selling the AM radio station Radio Del Plata to the Electroingeniería group, after almost five years.
Some time later, he was awarded as Outstanding Cultural Personality, in the Buenos Aires Legislature of Buenos Aires. In 2017, he was honored with another recognition, a Star on Corrientes Avenue in the capital.
That same year, the production company Ideas del Sur suffered several conflicts with Grupo Indalo (today Grupo Ceibo) due to economic problems and high costs. These reasons meant a break between the two; and the definitive breakup of the production company after 21 years.
Current News (2018-present)
In 2018, after this breakup and the subsequent breakup of Ideas del Sur, Marcelo founded his new television production company and the first digital content and services company LaFlia Contents, in February of that year, he announced it during the live broadcast on his official Facebook account. In it, they continued to produce the program Showmatch before its first break in 2021, and in addition, they produced several programs on various television networks in their country and on other international networks.
In addition, he made his film debut as an associate producer for the film Queen of Fear.

Months later, Marcelo leaves El Trece for the second time after staying there for 17 years.
A year later, and after being away from television for several months, he is hired by another television channel, América TV, as its new artistic director, its new programming manager and its new television host. With this, he will prepare his most anticipated official return to television with big surprises.
Apart from his communications career, he is involved in other activities related to sports and football, including in his positions first as vice president, and later president of his favorite football team San Lorenzo de Almagro, in addition to being president of both the Soccer Super League during 2020 and the Professional Soccer League in his country, and being one of the current vice presidents of the Argentine Soccer Association since that year.
Football
Marcelo's other passion is football. Since he is a fan of San Lorenzo de Almagro, like his father, and he used to comment on the results of soccer matches on his programs Videomatch and Showmatch, facing one of its announcers and comedians, Raúl Biaggioni, better known as "Larry de Clay", who is a fan of Boca Juniors.
In 1998, he bought Club Deportivo Badajoz, a soccer team in Spain's Second Division, which he then sold in 2000 after failing to achieve promotion to the First Division.
His approach with San Lorenzo was a long time ago, first, he accompanied the players in two soccer games as a guest player, then, he worked as a marketing manager and later, he joined the board of directors. Thus, from 2012 to 2016, Marcelo ran with his lawyer Matías Lammens to be president and vice president of San Lorenzo de Almagro, and they won the three elections three consecutive times, one with 80.52%, another with 82.44%. % and another with 88.15% of the votes, leaving Matías as president and Marcelo as vice president until December 2019.
In 2017, after remaining the vice president of his favorite soccer team, he requested leave due to health problems, then he would dedicate himself to the sport of basketball until 2019. Months later, he would return to his position until that said date.
On December 14, 2019, Marcelo was elected as the new president of San Lorenzo de Almagro with a percentage of 80.38% of the votes, this time, accompanied by union member Horacio Arreceygor as his new vice president. On December 18 of that year, both assumed their positions, Marcelo held this position away from television until April 2022, being replaced by Horacio.
His fame and prestige as a leader led him to be a candidate for president of the renowned Argentine Football Association (AFA). Marcelo thus became the favorite to be the successor of the late and controversial leader Julio Grondona in office, and after his death, the leader Luis Segura was also in charge of this association. That year, Marcelo was appointed as Secretary of Press and Communication within this association, he was also Secretary of soccer teams there.
In the elections of December 4, 2015, there were 75 assembly members who would decide between the two, but an impossible 38 to 38 destroyed the election due to two votes stuck inside the same envelope, so the vote remained postponed.
On April 17, 2017, Marcelo resigned from his position as Secretary of selections in this association.
On March 10, 2020, due to the resignation of leader Mariano Elizondo, Marcelo was unanimously elected as the new president of the Argentine soccer Super League until its end in May of that year.
Months later, he was elected as the president of the Professional Football League in his country, in addition to being one of the new vice presidents of the AFA.
