Mansiche stadium
The Mansiche Stadium in Trujillo is a soccer and athletics stadium located in the city of Trujillo.
History
The Mansiche Stadium was built between what used to be the Huerta Carolina and the Seminario Wall, which had to be removed since an enormous amount of waste had accumulated since colonial times, which was taken to Laredo to be used fertilizer, for this purpose a railway line was established.
It was inaugurated on October 12, 1946 under the name of Estadio Modelo de Trujillo. The first match, played that same day, was between Club Social Deportivo Trujillo and Sport Tigre de Trujillo.
The great manager of this great work was the well-remembered athlete Estuardo Meléndez Macchiavello. The works began on May 13, 1944 and concluded in July 1946, under the administration of the President of the Republic, José Luis Bustamante y Rivero.
In 1984 the north stand was built to meet the capacity required to host the Copa Libertadores, where Sporting Cristal would be local to this city. In this tribune the public watched the matches standing up.
In 1993, 4 artificial lighting towers were installed that make nighttime meetings possible. The inaugural match of the luminaries was played by Deportivo Independiente de Medellín from Colombia and the local Carlos A. Mannucci, a match that ended with a 0-1 victory for the visiting team.
For the 2004 Copa América, the stadium was completely remodeled, increasing its capacity to 25,036 spectators. The north, south and east stands were demolished and rebuilt. In the western grandstand, a VIP area was set up, the transmission booths and dressing rooms were remodeled, among other improvements. An electronic scoreboard was also installed.
The stadium hosted the opening ceremony of the 2005 U-17 World Championship, as well as 6 matches in the first phase, a quarterfinal match and a semifinal match, being the venue where the most matches were played next to Lima. For this event, artificial grass was installed on the pitch.
In 2013, the stadium hosted the Bolivarian Games, improvement work was carried out and a new athletic track was installed. Likewise, the land returned to natural grass, which it maintains to date.
Record attendance
The stadium recorded three attendance records in its entire history, before the remodeling, when it had a capacity of 14,000 spectators, a full house was registered in a match between the local team Carlos A. Mannucci and Alianza Lima, match valid for the Decentralized Championship of the year 1982 and which ended 1-0 in favor of the local team.
After the remodeling carried out in 2004 with a view to the 2004 Copa América, a full house was achieved in the match between the teams of Peru and Colombia that ended tied 2-2.
Another attendance record was in the friendly between Peru and Paraguay, where 23,000 spectators attended, the match ended with a 1-0 victory for the bicolor. For that match the stadium was renovated, as it would serve as preparation for the qualifiers for Russia 2018.
Capacity
In its beginnings the stadium had a capacity of 5,000 spectators, as time went by other stands began to be placed, with these small stands, the stadium had a capacity of 14,000. For the 2004 Copa América they remodeled it with a capacity of 25,000 spectators
Currently the stadium has a capacity of 25,000 spectators, 10,000 in the east, 5,000 in the north and south and 5,000 in the west, in addition the west has the only packed area of the stadium.
