Manuel "Manolo" Beltrán Martínez , nicknamed Triki (* Jaén, May 28, 1971), is a Spanish cyclist, professional since 1995. Known for his abilities as a climber, working mainly as a gregarious in the mountain.

Life

He was born in Jaén, in the popular neighborhood of La Alcantarilla. In his early years he combined his passion for cycling with his studies.

As a professional he has passed through the ranks of teams such as Mapei and Banesto (along with Abraham Olano, world champion on the road and time trial and winner of the 1998 Vuelta a España, Coast, US Postal/Discovery Channel (where he was a teammate of Tour de France team Lance Armstrong in his last three Tours) or Liquigas. A great climber, he took the lead in the 2004 Cycling Tour of Spain, which he retained for several stages. In the restructuring of the Discovery Channel he left for the Italian team of Liquigas.

He is affectionately nicknamed by his teammates in the peloton with the nickname Triki, after the Sesame Street character called Cookie Monster, since it is said that during races Eat a large amount of cookies due to the rich composition of rapidly absorbed carbohydrates they contain.

Doping

Return to mountain biking and professional development

On February 7, 2009, his incorporation into the Sport Bike mountain bike team was announced.

On May 17 he competed again, now with his new team, in the 101 kilometers of Ronda, a test organized by the Legion, where he achieved victory over more than 3,500 participants.

In 2018 he joined the Bujarkay-Wolfbike team. The man from Jaén thus becomes part of the Wolfbike Team structure directed by Juan Rodrigo Arenas, who was also a professional racer.

In 2019 it competes under the name Bujarkay-MMR after the agreement reached with the bicycle brand based in Avilés (Asturias).

Six participations in the Titan Desert, seven in the Andalusia Bike Race (where he has achieved two stage wins with José Luis Carrasco) and three second places in Madrid-Lisbon MTB Non Stop add to a track record with numerous victories in very tough events, such as the Vertical Bike 8h and the 101 kilometers of Ronda.

National cycling coach, indoor cycle master trainer and with extensive experience in personal training (he directs TBTraining), he has been summoned twice by the Spanish team for the MTB Marathon World Championship.

Cycling School

Currently he also directs the Bujarkay-Triki Beltrán Cycling School, created in 2016 and which allowed the capital of Jaén to once again have a cycling school almost a decade later.
