Malmea is a genus of phanerogamous plants with 28 species in the Annonaceae family. They are native to central and southern America.

Description

They are trees and shrubs. Flowers of medium or large size, in few to several inflorescences of flowers opposite the leaves, or rarely pseudo-axillary; jointed pedicels immediately above the basal bracts and bearing another bract above the joint. Sepals small, with narrow margins, imbricated in the bud. Petals much longer than sepals, more or less black when dry. Free monocarps.

Taxonomy

The genus was described by Robert Elias Fries and published in Arkiv för Botanik utgivet av K. Svenska Vetenskapsakademien 5: 3. 1905. The type species is: Malmea obovata R.E.Fr.
