Malena Grisel Alterio Bacaicoa (Buenos Aires, January 21, 1974), better known as Malena Alterio, is an actress well known in Spain by the general public through as a result of her participation as Belén López Vázquez in the successful television series Aquí no hay quien viva y La que se avecina. She is a Spanish film actress who makes her career mainly in Spain and Latin America.

Biography

She is the daughter of Héctor Alterio Onorato and Ángela Bacaicoa Destéfano, and sister of Ernesto Alterio. She is of Italian descent, her grandparents were originally from Carpinone, Molise. When she was barely a few months old, her family emigrated to Madrid after the death threats his father received in his native Argentina.

Malena studied acting for four years at Cristina Rota's school, which she managed to combine with her COU studies. She has also trained in classical and contemporary dance and plays the flute and sings.

In 2003, she married fellow actor and theater producer Luis Bermejo. They divorced in 2016.

Professional career

She had her first opportunity in the cinema with a comedy titled El palo (2000), where she played a marginal thief who called herself tin-chested. The following year she was a finalist for the Goya Award in the category of Best New Actress for said work.

To this work would be added those carried out in Torremolinos 73 (2003) and Las voces de la noche (2004). In 2004, he awarded the Goya of Honor to his father, in the company of his brother. He began his career on television participating in series such as Sisters or El comisario.

Although the character that has marked her career has been that of Belén López Vázquez in Aquí no hay quien viva, which she played for three years. Thanks to the success of the series, Malena she won the award for best secondary actress from the Union of Actors in 2004, a nomination for the Fotogramas de Plata in 2005 and the Award for Best Actress according to the Spanish Television Academy in 2005. On July 6, 2006, the series came to an end due to the purchase of 15% of the production company by Telecinco. In April 2007, Telecinco premiered La que se avecina, in which Malena Alterio played Cristina during the first season of 13 episodes.

In 2008 he performed the play Tío Vanya, by Antón Chéjov, on the Madrid stages, and in August of the same year A word of yours was released in Spanish cinemas with her first leading role, along with another television actress Esperanza Pedreño, the Cañizares of the also successful Telecinco series Camera Café. In 2009 he began shooting a series called Supercharly with Luis Callejo, which was scheduled to premiere on Telecinco in early 2010, but the network decided to delay it until the summer of that year. In March 2011, she won the Fotogramas de Plata 2010 award for Best Theater Actress, for her work Madre Coraje y sus hijos. Later she joined the cast of the television series for La Sexta BuenAgente, which aired between May 5 and December 2, 2011.

At the beginning of 2012, he shot a mini-series for TVE in Barcelona with only two episodes entitled Letter to Eva, about Eva Perón's trip to Spain during the Franco era and directed by Agustí Villaronga.

During the month of September 2012, Malena was immersed in the rehearsal of her play The children have fallen asleep, an adaptation of the play La gaviota by Anton Chekhov. In 2019, he premiered the Telecinco black comedy series Señoras del (h)AMPA, along with Toni Acosta, Nuria Herrero and Mamen García. Also that year, he premiered the films Under the mismo techo, in which he stars alongside Daniel Guzmán; and Perdiendo el este.
