Makiza
Makiza was a Chilean rap group born in 1997. Their style and lyrics are marked by political and social criticism, generally attacking the Chilean military dictatorship. They stood out as one of the most successful groups on the national scene.
His name comes from the French word “maquisard”, a resister of the Nazi occupation, who hid in the “maquis” (thicket).
History
First period (1997-2000)
It was originally composed by Anita Tijoux, Seo2 (voice), Squat (Dj) and Cenzi (music). All of them were part of the Demosapiens collective, dedicated to cultivating hip-hop in Chile.
In 1998, and after touring the underground stages of Santiago (together with Tiro de Gracia and La Pozze Latina), they released their first production called Vida salvaje that It came out independently.
The controversy caused by their lyrics led the group to sign with Sony Music in 1999 and release their second album, named Aerolíneas. This recording had an impact from its first single, "La Rosa de Los Vientos", which touches on topics that were taboo such as life in exile. After this, the quartet caused a lot of controversy with their second single "En paro", where they attacked public figures who collaborated with the military dictatorship of Augusto Pinochet.
Separation (2000-2004)
At the end of 2000 there was a break in the group; Anita Tijoux left for France to try her luck, where she gained notoriety in the underground scene. "Squat" she also migrated to Paris, but as a member of the Panic group. Cenzi and Seo2 formed Nemesis and released two albums, Justicia Divina (Sony Music, 2001) and Hip-hop Héroes (Aguasónica Producciones, 2003).
"The Re-Union" (2004-2006)
In January 2004, Anita, Seo2 and Cenzi decided to get together again to record two songs (“Dicen” and “100% Staila”) for the remastering of the album Vida Salvaje. In February they do a concert at the Providencia Theater, which they called "La Re-Unión" to promote the recently remastered album. After that Cenzi leaves the group and two new members join; "Acid Sound" and "Dj Nakeye" (scratch).
Due to the success of the event, they decided to continue with the Makiza project. After several months of composition and shows, the month of October 2005 was chosen for the group to launch their new production, Casino Royale, an album that follows a more mature and elegant line. The first single from this production was "Las cosas de la vida" and the second "Todo va más lento", which has a video clip. It was produced, among others, by DJ Raff, Erasmo de la Parra aka Nukiozz, dj who, Cenzi.
In September 2006, Seo2 decided to leave the group for personal reasons. In 2006 they were part of the tribute album Homage to Los Jaivas with the song "¿Dónde estabas tú?".
