Mackintosh's Man is a 1973 American thriller film directed by John Huston and starring Paul Newman, Dominique Sanda, James Mason, Ian Bannen, Harry Andrews and Nigel Patrick in the lead roles. It is based on the novel The Freedom Trap by Desmond Bagley.

Plot

During the Cold War period, secret agent Joseph Rearden (Paul Newman) commits a robbery to infiltrate a prison. From there he escapes with a convicted spy. The two are caught and sent to a mansion in a remote and unknown location, where they are guarded and kept in isolation. One day Joseph manages to deceive his guardian and escapes. However, on his journey that leads him to Malta, he realizes that nothing is as it seemed.
