Luzbelito is the seventh studio album by the Argentine musical group Patricio Rey y sus Redonditos de Ricota, published in July 1996, and at the same time one of their most controversial. plays. It is a conceptual album that, through the idea of a fictional son of the devil called Luzbelito, plays with the ambiguities of human beliefs and behaviors from different points of view. The Argentine edition of Rolling Stone magazine ranked the album at number 88 among the 100 best national rock albums. Also, "Mariposa Pontiac - Rock del País" was considered by Rock.com.ar as the third most outstanding song in national rock.

History

The album took longer to produce than the previous ones, in addition to using more recording studios (it was recorded in Be Bop, San Pablo, New River, Fort Lauderdale and El Pie, Buenos Aires).

During the tour to present the album, the group was the victim of an act of censorship when they were forced to suspend the concert scheduled in the city of Olavarría in August 1997, when the then mayor of the city, Helios Eseverri, resolved by a decree preventing the presentation of the group. The official excuse was the fear that acts of violence would break out on the part of his audience, as was usual. The recital was finally held later in the neighboring town of Tandil on October 4 of that same year.

Musically, the album has a somber and dark atmosphere, oppressive in certain passages, although with certain festive songs. It is also the first Los Redondos album to be sold without the traditional plastic case of audio CDs, using instead an elaborate mini-book with allegorical illustrations created, as in all the group's albums except En Direct, by the artist Rocambole. The songs were specially composed for the album with the exception of two: "Mariposa Pontiac - Country Rock" and "Freedom Blues." These were composed even before the release of the Gulp album, so they do not share the style of the rest of the album. Initially, this album was going to be composed of unreleased songs from the group, but, like Indio Solari, in his free time, he began to write songs that crossed out almost all of the songs on the project, thus leaving the only two unreleased ones, «Mariposa Pontiac - Country Rock” and “Freedom Blues.” It should be noted that 25 years after its publication, in 2021, Indio Solari, through his YouTube channel, also published the two songs until before the publication of Luzbelito they were unpublished, which were finally left out of the album Although they were already recorded and mastered, these songs are "Rock of the Bees" and "Quema el Celo", both songs along with "Blues of Liberty" and "Mariposa Pontiac - Rock of the Country", recorded in Brazil with the Brazilian orchestra Metaleira Mantequeira.
