Yolanda Guadalupe Ferrer Fuenmayor, known under her stage name as Lupita Ferrer (Maracaibo, Zulia, December 6, 1947) is a Venezuelan actress.

She is known as the "Queen of Soap Operas" or as "The Drama Queen", one of the most famous Spanish-speaking soap opera actresses of all time.

Biography

She was born as Yolanda Guadalupe Ferrer in Maracaibo, to Spanish immigrant parents. She became known for her beauty (especially her large, expressive eyes) and her strong dramatic presence in theater.

Ferrer began her theatrical training at the age of 15, acting in Shakespeare's Hamlet as Ofelia. When she was 18, the then President of Venezuela, Raúl Leoni, saw her perform in the play Doña Rosita La Soltera and was very impressed by her talent.

In the 60s Ferrer worked in numerous Mexican and Venezuelan-Mexican film co-productions alongside actors such as Mario Moreno "Cantinflas", and during the 70s he worked in Hollywood films sharing the screen with actors such as Tony Curtis.

In 1967, in what would be one of the first television adaptations of Doña Bárbara, based on the book of the same name by Rómulo Gallegos, as well as other small soap operas from CVTV and RCTV. In 1968 she traveled to Mexico to star in two soap operas made by the then Mexican Telesystem.

In 1970 she returned to Venezuela to star in the soap opera that would catapult her career as a soap opera actress in Esmeralda on Venevisión, where she acted as a young blind woman. He often stars in dramas such as Mariana de la Noche from 1975, about the forbidden love of Mariana Montenegro and Ignacio Lugo Navarro (José Bardina), which would be followed by other soap operas on the channel such as María Teresa, a woman who goes crazy after the loss of her young daughter, or La Zulianita in 1976.

In 1985 she starred in a very successful soap opera produced in Venezuela by Radio Caracas Televisión titled Cristal, in which she played Victoria Ascanio, a humble woman who, after falling in love with a young man who was going to be a priest,, becomes pregnant and is forced to abandon her daughter after giving birth. Two decades later, having become a business woman who runs the fashion house with an iron fist, she crosses her destiny with her daughter, whom she treats very severely and without knowing the bond that unites them.. Cristal was a huge success in South America, the United States, Europe and Asia, and was dubbed into many languages.

Between 1988 he participated in the Argentine production Amarte, which would also have a sequel in 1990. From the 1990s onwards he became popular in character roles in dramatic productions such as Rosalinda from Mexico in 1999, and Soledad from Peru in 2001.

In 2006 he participated in Ugly Betty, the American version of the Colombian soap opera Yo soy Betty la fea. In 2007, Ferrer antagonized Pecados Ajenos i> from Telemundo, who has since become a cult classic, as the main villain, the evil Ágata Mercenario.

In 2010, Ferrer participated in the successful Venevisión and Univisión telenovela, Eva Luna, a readaptation of Aguamarina, where she plays Justa Valdez. In 2012 she stars in the telenovela Rosa Diamante for the Telemundo network, where she shares a cast with Mauricio Ochmann.

Governor Manuel Rosales presented her with the Lago de Maracaibo order in her First Class and applauded her great career, referring to the fact that she is one of the Venezuelan actresses who has come very far, with discipline and perseverance. “Thank you for representing us in Venezuela and the world, Lupita. We welcome you with much appreciation and Zulian pride. Long live Zulia,” said the governor of the Zulia state during the ceremony.

In May 2023, Ferrer announces her return to dramas with the Hispanomedios co-production, Dramaticas, after almost 5 years inactive, to concentrate on caring for her mother. After 30 years without being on Venevisión, she is summoned to play a villain that she has never played in her artistic career. On July 5 of the same year, she receives the Lago de Maracaibo order in its First Class by Governor Manuel Rosales., while on July 7 he received his star on Paseo Baralt in Maracaibo to honor his artistic career.

Personal life

She had a brief marriage with the Venezuelan engineer Alfredo Carrillo, with whom she stayed for 2 years. After entering to study at the Actor's Studio in New York, she became engaged to the American director Hall Bartlett, who directed her in the film The Children of Sánchez (1978) with Anthony Quinn, Dolores del Río, Katy Jurado and Lucía Méndez. She currently resides in Miami.

In 2012, during an interview on the program Confesiones de Novela in which she confessed that she had had an abortion to avoid losing her jobs as an actress, and that she did not see herself as a mother.
