Lung Cancer Prevention
The main prevention of lung cancer is to avoid smoking, because smoking is the main risk factor and can almost be called a causal factor, if the population quit smoking, the incidence of lung cancer would drop by more than 85%, practically to the figures of the beginning of the 20th century (when people did not smoke). This requires the participation of governments in health promotion. At present it is paradoxical or absurd that anti-smoking laws and programs are enacted in Spain, when the state receives huge amounts of money from tobacco taxes. It is estimated that the income of the Spanish State originated by tobacco taxes is double that of the health expenses caused by tobacco-related diseases. Given this situation, the primary prevention or health promotion necessary to avoid lung cancer is difficult (but not impossible).
