Ludwig von Duck
Professor Ludwing von Pato (or Ludwig von Drake as in his original version, also called Perico Librote in Spanish comics) is one of The Walt Disney Company's characters that appears in both animations and comics.
His first appearance was as the presenter of the television animation "An Adventure in Color", in 1961.
He was introduced as an uncle to Donald Duck, and is inspired by the intellectual of capitalism Ludwig von Mises. Ludwing was born in Vienna, Austria in about 1870 (the real Ludwig von Mises was born in Austria-Hungary in 1881, and is one of the leading thinkers of the Austrian school of economics).
Some artists presume that his family is a German branch of the "Duck Family," but has not been included in major stories. Ludwing has a fascination for knowledge. Since his youth he has tried to get as many degrees, in any branch of science, as possible. Around the year 1930 he emigrated to the United States and married the retired Matilda McPato. Matilda was thought to have died around 1948 because in that year, his brother Scrooge McDuck declared that he was the last McDuck alive. But in 2005, Matilda reappeared in Scotland. It is now clear that Matilda and Ludwig have divorced. He was too know-it-all for her. From then on, Ludwing spent the rest of his life by himself, but with frequent and lengthy visits to his nephew Donald's.
His interests include psychology, and he attempted to do a psychological study on his nephew Donald. According to the timeline drawn up by the artist Don Rosa, Ludwing died around 1970 but, because she is a caricature, she has been revived recently. A number of TV series produced after 1970 (including Quack Pack and Mickey Mouse Works) have shown him still active during the 1990s, and the character has been revived for relatively frequent appearances on House of Mouse which originally aired from 2001-2003. She is also a frequent character in the series Mickey Mouse Clubhouse (2006-2016).
His name is a deformation of the German name "Ludwig", to which is added an "n" in the second syllable, so that it connotes the English word "Wing" (Ala in Spanish).
