Lucien Muller Schmidt (Bischwiller, September 3, 1934) is a former French footballer active in the 1960s; He played professionally at French side Stade de Reims, as well as at Real Madrid and F.C. Barcelona. He was capped 16 times with the French national team, with which he played in the 1966 World Cup.

He occupied the position of right interior midfielder with an offensive vocation; In Spain he was known as Don Luciano.

Coach

Once he retired as an active player, Muller began his career as a coach that led him to manage several teams, also in Spain and France, with mixed results.

In his first job as a coach, he obtained a promotion to first class directing C.D. Castellón, where he had replaced Vicente Dauder in the middle of the previous season; However, after two years in the first division, the team could not avoid relegation to the Second Division. Muller experienced four more relegations in his career, managing Real Zaragoza, Burgos C.F., Real Mallorca and C.D. Castellón again. And he also starred in three promotions to the first division with C.D. Castellón, Burgos C.F. and Real Mallorca.

The most prestigious team he directed was F.C. Barcelona in the 1978-1979 season. He was the first coach that, in 1978, President José Luis Núñez hired. However, despite the great investment that the club made in signings, the team did not meet expectations, and Muller was dismissed on April 18, 1979 after the team's painful elimination in the Copa del Rey.
