Live in London (Steve Vai DVD)
Live at the Astoria London is Steve Vai's first live solo DVD. The material was obtained from two presentations that Steve gave in London during 2001. The edition consists of two DVDs that bring together approximately 3.5 hours of image and audio. Biographical and record information about the guitarist is also included, as well as an audio track in which the musicians comment on the performance.
In this recital the band is made up of: Steve, guitar and voice; Billy Sheehan, bass and vocals; Tony Mc Alpine, keyboards and guitar; Dave Weiner, guitar; and Virgil Donati on drums. It is really a very complete recital that brings together songs from different periods in Vai's career, both during her time with David Lee Roth and on her solo albums, plus some songs by other renowned musicians.
As usual in their live performances, most of the songs differ quite a bit from their original versions. Highlights: the high-speed “duels” with maestro Billy Sheehan and the “twin” guitar segments with Mc Alpine and Weiner, the three of them demonstrating perfect synchronization in the demanding plucks written by Steve.
