The line D is one of the six lines of the Buenos Aires subway. Its route goes from the Catedral station in downtown Buenos Aires to the Congreso de Tucumán station on the border between the Belgrano and Núñez neighborhoods. It was inaugurated on June 3, 1937, becoming the fourth line of the network to provide service to the public. It runs mainly under the avenues Diagonal Norte, Córdoba, Santa Fe, and its continuation, Cabildo. It has an extension of 10.6 km and a total of sixteen stations. It transports around 357,000 passengers per business day. It uses, like lines A, C, E and H, capture electricity by flexible overhead catenary.

Line D was the second line built by the Spanish company CHADOPyF (Compañía Hispano Argentina de Obras Públicas y Finanzas), after Line C inaugurated in November 1934. Construction began in 1935 and The first section of the works, from the Cathedral to the Courts, was inaugurated in 1937 with 1.7 km of tunnel, including a junction of about 300 m with Line C. Three years later, the section that led the line to Plaza Italy in Palermo, with which the length of the line was 6.5 km.

The Ministro Carranza station was fully opened to the public in 1993, although it could be used temporarily since 1988 through a shuttle service. Starting that year, the procedures for the extension work were accelerated, and a tender was called for the construction of four more stations (Olleros, José Hernández, Juramento and Congreso de Tucumán), which would allow the subway to be taken to the neighborhoods of Colegiales, Belgrano and its border with Núñez.

Line D met all passenger expectations and traffic improved significantly, since many workers who used to use cars, buses or taxis to go downtown, from the extensions turned to the subway.

Initially, the construction of one last station was planned after Congreso de Tucumán, Manuela Pedraza. Subsequently, it was decided to build only a garage, with the same name, after the terminal station. As a curiosity, the original project, from 1935, provided that line D would end at the Núñez station of the Miter Railway, a situation similar to the one from line B at the Federico Lacroze station with the General Urquiza railway.

Towards the end of the 1990s, the opening of the last four stations was completed in two stages; the first with the opening of the Olleros stations in 1997 and José Hernández in 1998; the second with the stations Juramento in 1999 and Congreso de Tucumán in 2000.

Since 2015, it has had the "BA WIFI" network, which allows high-speed internet access in all Line D stations. Currently It has a total extension of 11 km and 16 stations.

In June 2016, the CBTC signaling and platform doors for line D were tendered.
