Limp bizkit
Limp Bizkit is an American nu metal and rap metal band formed in Jacksonville, Florida, in 1994. Its creators were frontman and vocalist Fred Durst and bassist Sam Rivers. Rivers' cousin John Otto would later join as drummer, and guitarist Rob Waters, later replaced by Wes Borland. Some time later ex-House of Pain member DJ Lethal joined, completing the lineup. The band has sold over 40 million copies worldwide to date.
The band rose to stardom in June 1999, when their second studio album, Significant Other, sold four million copies by the end of that year. However, their international breakthrough came in 2000 with Chocolate Starfish and the Hotdog Flavored Water, which included the single "Take a Look Around" and was part of the soundtrack of the movie Mission: Impossible II. Fred Durst's band managed to break their own record (set a year earlier with their previous album) after dispatching more than a million copies in its first week on sale and reaching number 1 in the United States, Canada and the United Kingdom.
Limp Bizkit and especially its leader, Fred Durst, have always been accompanied by controversy. Durst was heavily criticized after the 1999 Woodstock Festival, where numerous violent scenes occurred during Limp Bizkit's performance, causing chaos in the crowd. During the band's performance, injuries were recorded due to moshing and rape in front of the stage itself. However, the most tragic moment took place during the Big Day Out in Sydney in 2001, in which, again during the performance of Limp Bizkit, there were avalanches of young people while they were moshing. As a result, a 16-year-old Australian girl died of suffocation.
The band's guitarist, Wes Borland, left the lineup in 2001 and was replaced by Mike Smith for the recording of the band's fourth studio album, Results May Vary. Borland returned to record The Unquestionable Truth (Part 1) and left again in 2006. In February 2009 all the original members of the band returned to offer a world tour and record a new album. Their first studio album in six years, Gold Cobra, was released on June 28, 2011.
After years of previously releasing an album tentatively titled Stampede of the Disco Elephants, the band released their sixth studio album, Still Sucks, on October 31, 2021.
History
Three Dollar Bill, Y'all$ (1997–1998)
In 1997 Limp Bizkit recorded Three Dollar Bill, Yall$ with KoЯn producer Ross Robinson and Flip/Interscope. In January 1998 the rock station KUFO in Portland, Oregon began broadcasting "Counterfeit." During five weeks they played it 50 times and the group began to gain some fame in that area. In reality, listeners were unaware that what they had been hearing was basically a covert ad, as Flip/Interscope had paid $5,000 to have the song played on the air. courtesy of Flip/Interscope" It meant that legally it could not be considered a bribe to the station, but simple advertising. The group had a small following thanks to their performances on the Warped Tour and Ozzfest, in which Durst came on stage from inside a giant water cup. But it was his participation in the Family Values tour (along with KoЯn, Ice Cube and Rammstein) and his metal version of & # 34; Faith & # 34; by George Michael which led them to get the support of MTV and finally double platinum, achieving sales of over a million and a half copies.
Significant Other (1999–2000)
After everything that had to do with Three Dollar Bill, Yall$ (recording and touring), Durst begins to develop another of his facets, that of scouting. Durst discovers bands like Staind, Cold, Puddle of Mudd, and Taproot. Additionally, Durst is appointed Senior Vice President at Interscope Records in early July. The group begins recording a new album, this time with producer Terry Date. The result is Significant Other, an album that includes collaborations by Jonathan Davis from KoЯn, Scott Weiland from Stone Temple Pilots and rapper Method Man, going straight to No. 1 on Billboard in July 1999. The controversy is time is served by his single "Nookie", with a chorus that reads "I did everything for the 'nookie', for the 'nookie'; and so you can eat your cookie and stick it on your, yes, and paste it on your, yes, and paste it on your yes, and paste it ". The problem is that 'nookie' in Spanish it is the sexual act, and when during his performance at Woodstock 99 there are several sexual assaults among the public, the most conservative media sectors are alerted and strongly criticize Durst and his band, accusing them of inciting violence against women.. Despite everything, Significant Other returns to number 1 on the charts, displacing the Backstreet Boys. Their participation as headliners in the second edition of Family Values establishes them as leaders of a new generation of fans (that of the so-called ADIDAS Rock) and they end up selling eight million of their second album.
Undaunted by such statements, Limp Bizkit continues with his Family Values Tour, in which Durst is once again the center of controversy and makes headlines in hundreds of magazines and newspapers, due to rudeness. During the controversial Napster case of 2000, Durst positions himself as one of the most open artists towards the file sharing program, defending the legitimacy of this type of software and starting a dialectical war with Metallica, the main anti-Napster group. During that "war" Verbally, Durst stated that "the relationship between Napster and our tour is simply that we asked them for money to make it free and they agreed. That's all. Who cares what Metallica can do! We wanted to do a free concert for the fans and Napster has allowed us, also thanks to that we are getting a lot of attention. Also, I personally can't download music, because I have a Macintosh and they don't have a Macintosh-capable program yet. I can get in, but not download topics. Anyway, I'd like to know how many people have become Limp Bizkit fans after discovering us there". All of this paves the way for the October release of the band's third album, Chocolate Starfish and the Hot Dog Flavored Water.
After the controversies that occurred over the performance at Woodstock 99, controversies began to engulf the members of the group. Durst, especially, begins to engage in feuds with Trent Reznor of Nine Inch Nails, the nu metal band Slipknot, and former Ozzy Osbourne guitarist Zakk Wylde; physical violence with Scott Stapp, lead singer of Creed, verbal wars with rapper Eminem, and later, Iron Maiden's Bruce Dickinson.
Chocolate Starfish & the Hot Dog Flavored Water (2000–2001)
Limp Bizkit is one of the biggest groups in the United States, but they have never toured outside of America. Thanks to their success with Significant Other and "Nookie", they achieve some fame outside the US borders, but not enough. However, thanks to their participation in the Mission Impossible 2 soundtrack, they achieve their first worldwide hit with Take a Look Around and incredible anticipation is generated for their new album. The band announces that they will be called Chocolate Starfish & the Hot Dog Flavored Water. During the 2000 MTV Video Music Awards, the award for Best Rock Video ("Best Rock Video") was presented and among the nominees was Rage Against The Machine. In the end, the prize ended up in the hands of Limp Bizkit; as Fred Durst was thanking him to the audience, Tim Commerford climbed onto the stage scaffolding and threatened to throw himself off. Tim Commerford called Limp Bizkit "the most hated band in the world," and the television broadcast went to commercial breaks. Then Tim clarified that it was all a joke. Thanks to this, the live performance of the band Rage Against The Machine was overshadowed. At the same event Fred Durst sang a duet with Christina Aguilera.
Shortly after they start a tour with Eminem. In the first week since the release of the album, Chocolate Starfish and the Hotdog Flavored Water sold 1,054,511 copies and reached number one on the American sales charts. The album went on to sell nearly 14 million copies worldwide.
For a certain part of the population, Limp Bizkit's music was sexist, incited violence and seemed stupid to them. But the eight million records of his second job said otherwise. A collection of songs that become the anthems of the year 2001, where the most repeated word is "fuck", where they make fun of Trent Reznor, the guru of neometal. It features collaborations from Scott Weiland, DMX, Redman and Method Man, in the remixed version of "Rollin'; (Urban assault vehicle)" which includes this album.
That same year, during the 2001 Big Day Out in Sydney, Australia, Durst was indirectly involved in the death of a 16-year-old Australian girl named Jessica Michalik, who was crushed to death in a performance of Limp Bizkit. For this reason, Durst and the rest of the band were sued before the Australian courts years later by the young woman's parents accusing negligence, since they were previously acquitted, although it is recorded in a video of that festival in which Fred Durst says "if someone falls and hurts themselves stop and pick them up".
New Old Songs and Results May Vary (2001-2004)
New Old Songs is a mix album of old Limp Bizkit material. Interscope distributed this record that was heavily criticized by the press and fans. This album was released after the departure of Wes Borland, something that greatly irritated the followers of Limp Bizkit, and the content of the album, practically entirely of Hip Hop, was also the object of the anger of fans and critics, who accused Durst to take advantage of Borland's departure to launch a vehicle for attracting rapper fans to the detriment of followers of the metal style. This is the only CD in which the metal [Nu and Underground] rhythms are suppressed to put a hip hop background on it.
The album remixes all kinds of Limp Bizkit hits, where rappers like Timbaland, Puff Daddy or The Neptunes remix and produce the songs they work on.
In 2002, the group began the search for a guitarist to fill the position of Wes Borland, going so far as to organize contests and great performances to test the participants. Finally, the chosen one would be Mike Smith from the band Snot. The band also revamped their logo to promote their change in style. In September 2003, Results May Vary is released, already recorded with Smith on guitar. In general, Results May Vary is considered the weakest album of the band. The main reason for these criticisms were the creative gaps that became apparent as a result of Borland's absence. Likewise, the album's sales were poor compared to Chocolate Starfish and the Hot Dog Flavored Water, which sold a million copies in its first week on sale, while Results May Vary did so in its fourteenth week.
In 2003 Metallica's Summer Sanitarium Tour 2003 began, with nu metal and hard rock bands such as Deftones, Mudvayne and Linkin Park In one of the tour stops, Chicago, the attendees The concert threw articles and interrupted Durst from the moment he took the stage. With the crowd chanting "Fuck Fred Durst" (fuck Fred Durst) and the continuation of the assaults, Durst threw the mic after six songs and left the stage, but not before further altercations with the audience and audience.[quote required]
In July 2004, rumors that Borland was hanging around the band became apparent when Limp Bizkit announced it on their website. Therefore, Smith had to leave the band, without knowing the official reasons, since the return of Borland supposed the immediate fulmination of a Smith who Durst referred to as "a boy who was not part of the family". We're so glad Mike is gone. We've had a great time playing with him, but deep down in each of us we knew he wasn't the right man" alluding to the void that Borland left after his departure.
The Unquestionable Truth (Part 1) and disbandment (2005-2008)
On July 8, 2004, a Fan Site published an official report stating that Borland was recording with the band in London. Photos later appeared on the band's official website of him composing with it, and a live video of them playing a new song, "The Truth"; it was also published on the web. The band launches The Unquestionable Truth (Part 1) with good reasons to make the public expect: first, the return of Borland; and second, another turn, that of Ross Robinson, producer of KoЯn and first producer of Limp Bizkit on Three Dollar Bill, Yall$. The Unquestionable Truth (Part 1) was received by critics and fans in much better spirits than its predecessor, Results May Vary. The new work by the Jacksonville band was released in EP format, with only seven tracks and all of them begin in their title with "The". Also, during the recording, John Otto left the band for rehabilitation and was replaced by Sammy Siegler. Siegler was the drummer on all the tracks, except for 'The Channel', recorded by Otto.
In 2006, Borland left the band again to continue with his parallel projects, From First to Last (with whom he recorded an album in 2006 and announced that it is the only one) and Black Light Burns, a project created by himself. Many critics and fans accused Durst of having tried to sound excessively like Rage Against the Machine (one of the most influential groups of the original Limp Bizkit sound) and its leader, Zack de la Rocha. Many of the band members have solo projects, either in collaborations with parallel groups (like Borland) or film projects (like Durst). Rumors claimed that in 2007 The Unquestionable Truth (Part 2) would see the light but it was not. Borland maintains that this second part of The Unquestionable Truth will never be released to the public, while Durst said on MySpace that he will, with a corresponding tour and possibly a new studio album to follow. Durst shot an independent film called "The Education of Charlie Banks", which ended in July 2007 to rave reviews. In July 2007, Fred Durst posted a song titled "Summer Of Bipolar Love" on his MySpace. On March 31, 2008 he released his first DVD, & # 34; Rock Im Park 2001 & # 34;, which corresponds to the festival held in Germany in 2001.
Kid Rock and Three Six Mafia have been confirmed to have worked on The Unquestionable Truth (Part 2), who would appear on the track "Don't Test Me". In a recent interview, (06-26-08), on the "Tom Green Show", Fred Durst (Who was playing a character alter ego) responds to a fan who wonders when the band will be back. back on stage one more time, saying: "I'm gonna get up on the stage for you man, and don't worry about it, it's coming. And you better wear your panties or your diaper or whatever cause I'm gonna do metal your fuckin ass off brother!" And you'd better have your panties on or your diapers on or whatever because I'm going to make metal out of your fucking ass!). In the interview he also mentioned that TUT P2 is still in progress. On 07-2-08, Fred Durst created a Facebook just for true Limp Bizkit fans, where he posted a video where you can see him, saying: "It's Time For Limp Bizkit". Durst has recently talked seriously about a comeback with The Unquestionable Truth Part II. Him saying that Limp Bizkit will be reborn and end everything. He is said to be working with the original style of the band, with more than 10 songs and now all the songs without the title "The".
Reunion and Gold Cobra (2009-2012)
On August 5, 2009, a new rumor broke, that the band would be returning in the words of Fred Durst himself: "Hello my dear members of the family. Yes, it's been a while, but time that has been worth it. The time is coming to spread a little of the `Bizkit´ throughout the universe. I say this with the best intentions and as much motivation as possible. We, Limp Bizkit, are excited about both our future and yours. Limp Bizkit is the way."
Limp Bizkit is for living. So let's start 'stirring' things up, my friends." As most of you know, Wes Borland became one of the Marilyn Manson (band) musicians for a short time in August, currently he has abandoned Marilyn Manson. He is now present in the next works of Limp Bizkit. It is said that Wes Borland re-integrated again with Limp Bizkit and in 2009 they will return with a new album as well as a confirmed show at the Download Festival in England, along with Korn and other groups to be confirmed. Despite the fact that Wes Borland denied on several occasions that he would not return to Limp Bizkit despite the fact that his return had already been published, Wes is back as well as the official page shows a chat board, a section of Twitter with which we know that they do at all times and the news that the group returns with the original formation.
Limp Bizkit is on a tour of Europe with the original band (with Wes Borland back). This tour began on May 20, finished in Europe, followed by a tour of Latin American lands. After finishing the tours, Limp Bizkit will enter the studio to record a new album with the same rhythm as when Wes Borland was there (before he left Limp Bizkit and was replaced by Mike Smith).
Gold Cobra is the sixth studio album by the American nu metal band, Limp Bizkit. Its release was in June 2011 through Polydor Records and Interscope Records. It is Limp Bizkit's first album in seven years and the first to bring together the group's original line-up since 2000's Chocolate Starfish and the Hotdog Flavored Water (since Results May Vary was recorded without Wes Borland and The Unquestionable Truth). (Part 1) without John Otto).
Limp Bizkit continues programming more concerts for this year, the official list of bands that will perform at “Rock on the Range 2010″ in Ohio, USA, was announced, where Limp Bizkit occupies one of the main positions. This event will take place on May 22 and 23 of this year and will bring together great artists such as Godsmack, Rob Zombie, Slash, Deftones, Papa Roach, among others.
Fred Durst has created an official Limp Bizkit forum called “LB Gamer Clan (LBGC), a place where fans can share and play Gears of War, Call of Duty, among others using the Xbox console.
Limp Bizkit will perform at the 2010 version of Rock Fest, a 4-day concert to be held in Cadott, Wisconsin, USA. Limp Bizkit will play on Sunday July 18 with Black Valentinene, Trapt, Drowning Pool and Alice In Chains.
In an interview on radio February 17th Fred has confirmed some working titles such as "Combat Jazz", "Douche Bag", and "It Ain't I.". It was also revealed that Wes Borland was the one who came up with the name for the album 'Gold Cobra'. In another radio interview the band confirmed that music videos will be shot, as well as mentioning the intention to release three songs at a time instead of just one, with a possible release date of March 2010.
It was estimated that they would tour Latin America in countries like Argentina, Chile, Colombia, Paraguay and Peru; but due to problems with the event organizers, this tour did not take place and was resumed in 2011. Currently the group has sold more than 70 million copies and has given concerts and tours all over the world. Fred Durst is on the list of the 100 greatest metal vocalists of all time, a job that he has earned on his own merits.
During 2010 and 2011 they finished recording 'Gold Cobra' making the official launch on June 28, 2011, after many months of waiting. The album was not very successful commercially, but among the fans, they appreciated the work of the band since the material contained in the album was very powerful. During 2010 and 2011, Limp Bizkit did a European tour passing through all the most important cities in Europe, and playing in many important festivals, and having a lot of ticket sales success, fact that made them win over the public and continue rocking as they have. doing years. It also meant the return to the scene of [(Wes Borland)], the band's guitarist who was back playing with them live, and showing that Limp Bizkit is qualified as one of the best live bands.
Limp Bizkit finished the European tour, and they reunited. A new album could appear soon.
Stampede of the Disco Elephants and Limp Bizkit Still Sucks (2012–present)
Limp Bizkit signed in 2012 to Lil Wayne's label Cash Money Records. Weeks later, Fred Durst confirmed that in 2013 they would release a new album, whose name would be Stampede of the Disco Elephants (The stampede of the disco elephants). Various delays and statements fueled the suspicion that perhaps he could never be heard due to technical and internal problems with the band, even causing the temporary removal of DJ Lethal. However, Fred assured that the record is ready and online for quite some time: 'I told you guys, the work is online. I posted it a year and a half ago. It's up to you to find it', “Do you know the game Dig Dug? It's an amazing game from the 80's. Dig Dug. You're going to have to look for it to find it."
The last single so far by Limp Bizkit, Endless slaughter, was released in August 2014. Since then, the supposed new album has been frozen and it is not known if it will finally be released due to its numerous delays.
In August 2021, just a week after their main stage at Lollapalooza, the band canceled their summer tour, "out of an abundance of caution and concern for the safety of the band, crew and most of the audience. fans".
On August 25, 2021, the band revealed that new music would be "leaking" in quick succession with their new album soon after.
On September 30, 2021, the band released a new single 'Dad Vibes'.
