Lillehammer Olympic Games 1994
The 1994 Lillehammer Olympic Games, officially known as the XVII Olympic Winter Games, were an international multi-sport event held between February 12 and 27, 1994. in the city of Lillehammer, Norway. Lillehammer was chosen over the candidate cities of Anchorage, United States, Östersund, Sweden, and Sofia, Bulgaria.
In 1986, the International Olympic Committee decided to hold the Winter Olympic Games in even numbered years in which the Summer Olympic Games were not held. Thus, after Albertville 1992, Lillehammer hosted the XVII version of these Games. It was the first (and only) occasion in which the Olympic Games were held less than every four years and with a difference of two years.
