Leorio (Llorio in Asturian and Leorio/Llorio officially) is a parish belonging to the rural district of the council of Gijón (Principality of Asturias, Spain).

Demographics

In 2008 it had a population of 364 inhabitants and in 2018 of 449.

Location and geography

It limits to the south with the council of Siero, to the east with the parish of Huerces, to the north with that of Granda and to the west with that of La Pedrera.

The Llantones River runs through the parish, a tributary of the Piles River.

Communications

Leorio has an elongated north-south layout, being structured by the AS-I highway, which divides the parish. The AS-I has a 303-meter viaduct and an exit, which serves the Mareo de Abajo neighborhood. This highway opened to traffic in 2002 and caused a brutal division of the parish into two halves: west and east.

The AS-317, the historic Oviedo-Gijón highway, is the border with the parish of La Pedrera.

EMTUSA line 24 ends at Mareo de Abajo and is the only one in the parish.

The La Camocha Railroad crossed Leorio from west to east, and there is currently the La Camocha greenway.
