Lena olin
Lena Maria Jonna Olin (Stockholm, March 22, 1955) is a Swedish theater, film and television actress who was nominated for an Emmy for best actress. She has been nominated for several acting awards, including a Golden Globe in 1988 for The Unbearable Lightness of Being and an Academy Award for Enemies: A Love Story in 1989. Other well-known films in which Olin has appeared include Chocolat (directed by her husband Lasse Hallström), Queen of the Damned, Casanova and The Reader. Olin was also a main cast member of the second season (and a recurring guest star in subsequent seasons) of the hit television series Alias.
Biography
Lena Olin is the youngest of three siblings. Her father, Stig Olin, was a singer-songwriter and also an actor. She has been in several films by acclaimed director Ingmar Bergman. Also her mother Britta Holmberg is an actress, and her brother Mats Olin is a well known Swedish singer. She completed her acting studies at the Swedish National Academy of Dramatic Art. Ella Lena was crowned Miss Scandinavia 1975 in Helsinki, Finland, in October 1974. Olin worked as a substitute teacher and as a nurse before becoming an actress.
Career
After studying acting at the Royal Theater School in Stockholm, Olin began acting in classic plays by Shakespeare and Ibsen, and also appeared in minor roles in some Swedish films directed by Ingmar Bergman. It was precisely this director who selected her for her first role in the theater after failing the official admission test as a result of her shyness. She later had the opportunity to perform at the Teatro Real under the direction of Bergman, where we can highlight the play King Lear , in which she Olin played Cordelia . For this work she traveled the world-Paris, Berlin, New York, Copenhagen, Moscow and Oslo, among others. Critically acclaimed stage performances of Olin at the Swedish Royal Dramatic Theater included the role as Margarita in Mikhail Bulgakov's adaptation of The Master and Margarita, Ann in Summer by Edward Bond, Titania in Shakespeare's A Midsummer Night's Dream, The Alchemist by Ben Jonson, the title role in Ingmar Bergman's portrayal of Strindberg's Miss Julia and Charlotte in the contemporary drama Nattvarden (The Last Supper), by Lars Norén.
In 1980 she was one of the first winners of the Ingmar Bergman Award, which was started in 1978 by the director himself, who was also one of the two judges.
In 1984 Olin made his debut in a Swedish international film, After the Rehearsal, again directed by Bergman. The previous year she had appeared in the Swedish film, also by Bergman, Fanny and Alexander, which had wide international diffusion.
She starred in her first American film in 1988, co-starring with Daniel Day-Lewis. A year later she was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress and won the New York Film Critics Circle Award for her portrayal of a female Nazi concentration camp survivor in Enemies: A Love Story . She thus kicked off her most successful stage in Hollywood, with films like Sydney Pollack's Havana (with Robert Redford) and Mr. North , an old John Huston project finally brought to life by his children Anjelica and Danny. In 1994, she starred in Romeo Is Bleeding and played, in what is perhaps her most extreme character to date, the successful and scandalous woman Mona Demarkov - being one of the most Popular actress in the movie. She then participated in The Ninth Door , a satanic thriller by Roman Polanski starring Johnny Depp.
Olin and director Lasse Hallström collaborated on the film Chocolat (2000), which received five Academy Award nominations, and on Casanova (2005).
From 2002 to 2003, Olin appeared opposite Jennifer Garner in his first television role in the second season of the American series Alias, playing one of the most pivotal roles in the series with the role of Irina Derevko, for which she was nominated for an Emmy Award for Best Supporting Actress in 2003. Olin received critical acclaim for her role on the series - particularly for her chemistry with Victor Garber, who played her former husband and "enemy" Jack Bristow. It was rumored that she was offered a salary in excess of $100,000 per episode to continue on the series, but she dropped out to spend more time with her family in New York.
In May 2005, by popular acclaim, Olin returned to the role of Irina Derevko in Alias to appear in the final two episodes of the fourth season. She subsequently appeared again in the fifth season, in December 2005, in April 2006, and in the Alias finale on May 22, 2006.
Olin had a small but significant role in the 2008 Oscar nominated film The Reader, playing a Jewish Auschwitz survivor.
In 2005 he returned to Sweden for a short filming period and starred in a supporting role in Danish director Simon Staho's film Orangutang Bang Bang (with a punk music soundtrack, among others, The Clash and Iggy Pop).
In 2006, he shot a mystery film called The Devil You Know directed by James Oakley, and a thriller called Awake alongside Hayden Christensen and Jessica Alba.
In 2010 Lena played Diane Hirsch in the romantic-drama film Remember Me. The film stars Robert Pattinson and features performances by Emilie de Ravin, Pierce Brosnan, Chris Cooper, and Ruby Jerins. The film was released on March 12, 2010.
Private life
In September 1986, she gave birth to her first child, Auguste Rahmberg. Her father is the Swedish actor Örjan Ramberg, with whom she had performed on stage in many productions. The relationship ended shortly after. In 1994, she married film director Lasse Hallström, whom she met in Sweden in 1992. They were married at the Hedvig Eleonora Church in Stockholm. In June 1995 they had a daughter they named Tora Hallström.
Since 2006, he has lived in New York with his family.
