Landsberg am Lech
Landsberg am Lech (pronounced landsberg am lej) is a small town in Bavaria, southern Germany located on the Romantic Road (Romantische Straße) on the banks of the Lech River, with a population of 26,000 according to 2003 data. The community is engaged in the production of paper and textile products.
It is famous for housing the cell in the prison fortress in which Adolf Hitler, while imprisoned for an attempted coup, the "Munich Putsch", wrote My Struggle (German: Mein Kampf) in 1924. Hitler would not be the only Nazi to visit Landsberg am Lech prison; the defendants of the Nuremberg Trials would remain there during 1945 and 1946. Ulrich Greifelt died in this prison after being sentenced to life imprisonment.
