Lampa (from Quechua, "miner's shovel") is a commune in the central area of Chile, which administratively belongs to the Province of Chacabuco, Metropolitan Region of Santiago. Currently, Mayor Jonathan Enrique Opazo Carrasco is the communal authority.

In the quarter of 2016, Lampa was selected in first place as the commune with the most sales in the housing area, reaching 28%, with respect to Colina and Puente Alto.

The commune of Lampa borders the communes of Til Til, Colina, Pudahuel, Curacaví, Quilicura and Quilpué.

Features

It is a commune of mostly flat land, with certain undulations in its northern sector. It has, like most of the communes in the region, Mediterranean-type vegetation that forms a landscape that is green almost all year round, although in summer times hot spots tend to be created. The climate is mostly temperate Mediterranean, although in this area more extreme extremes are recorded than in the majority of the region. It is for the same reason that on winter days the minimum temperatures can be negative - with frequent frosts - and in summer they can reach 40 °C. According to the Chilean Meteorological Directorate, Lampa has recorded some of the lowest temperatures in the Santiago Metropolitan Region, reaching -8.5°C on July 3, 2011 and -8.4°C on July 22, 2013.

Commerce is gradually expanding, especially in the center of the commune, which is quite close to the Central Highway and connected by the Américo Vespucio Express and Costanera Norte highways to all the neighborhoods of Greater Santiago. Demographically, it is a growing commune, as more and more housing complexes are being built due to its proximity to Santiago de Chile via the Autopista Central, Costanera Norte and Américo Vespucio Norte Express.

The Norponiente Highway will soon be built that will link Cerro Navia with Lampa from the Carrascal Interchange on the Costanera Sur.

According to the 2017 Census, Lampa has a population of 102,034 inhabitants, being the commune with the greatest growth compared to the previous census (2002), when it only had 40,228 inhabitants.
