La Congolaise
La Congolaise ("La Congolese") is the national anthem of the Republic of the Congo. Not to be confused with "La zaïroise" from the neighboring Democratic Republic of the Congo. It was adopted after independence in 1959 and modified in 1969, but restored again in 1991. The lyrics were written by Jacques Tondra and Georges Kibanghi, and composed by Jean Royer and Joseph Spadilière.
Original lyrics (in French)
En ce jour, le soleil se leve
Et notre Congo resplendent
Une longue nuit s'achève
A grand bonheur a surgi
Chantons all with ivresse
The chant of freedom.
Chorus
Congolese debut fièrement partout
Proclamons l'union de notre nation
Oublions ce qui nous divise
I am more than ever
Living for notre devise
Unité, Travail, Progrès.
Des forêts jusqu'à la savane
Des savanes jusqu'à la mer
Un seul peuple une seule âme
A seoul ardent and fier heart
Luttons tous tant que nous sommes
Pour our old pays noir.
Chorus
Et s'il nous faut mourir en somme
What amount can we children
Partout pourront dire comme
On triumph in combatant
Et dans le mondre village
Chantent sous nos trois couleurs.
Chorus:
Spanish translation
On this day the sun rises
And our Congo shines
A long night is over
and a great well-being has arisen.
Let's all sing with euphoria
The Song of Freedom
Chorus
Congolese, let us stand proud everywhere,
Let us proclaim the unity of our nation,
Let's forget what divides us;
We are closer than ever
Let's live by our motto:
Unity, Work and Progress.
Forests to savannah
Sheets to the sea
One people, one soul
One burning and proud heart
Let's fight all of us who are in favor
of our black country.
Chorus
And if it is necessary to finally die
They don't matter more than our children
Everywhere they will be able to tell how
Triumphs in combat
And in the smallest town
They sing under our three colors.
