Kyushu region
Kyūshū (九州地方, Kyu shu? ), literally "Region of the Nine Provinces", is a region of Japan that includes the island of Kyūshū. It is made up of eight Prefectures: Kagoshima, Kumamoto, Miyazaki, Nagasaki, Ōita, Okinawa, Saga, and Fukuoka.
The area of the region is 44,466.91 km², with a population of 14'572,444 people (November 1, 2009) and the density of each person is 327.7 people/km².
Economy
The leading role in the regional economy is held by the electronic part. Services, commerce and manufacturing are also developed. The Kyushu mountain divides the island of Kyushu into two parts: in the north are the main industrial companies (the most important industrial centers: Kitakyushu, Nagasaki and Ōita) while in the south They are mainly engaged in agriculture. The northern part is dominated by the chemical industry and metallurgy.
The most populous city is Fukuoka. It is an important business and financial center of Kyushu. Fukuoka is the largest airport on the island. More than a million people live in Kitakyūshū, a major industrial center in the region. The population of Kumamoto and Kagoshima exceeds 500,000. The fifth most populous city on the island, Nagasaki is one of the largest ports in Japan.
On the island of Kyūshū grows: rice, soybeans, tea, tobacco, sweet potatoes; they developed the production of silk, porcelain (Arita, Imari).
Okinawa's economy plays an important role in tourism. In the prefecture the services of the sector are more developed.
