Kurt Pahlen (2002)

Kurt Pahlen (May 26, 1907 - July 24, 2003) was an Austrian writer, composer, and conductor.

Biography

In 1929 he received his doctorate from the Vienna Academy of Music, after which he began his concert career in the same city. In 1938 he emigrated to Argentina, after Austria was annexed to Nazi Germany. There he was director of the Buenos Aires Philharmonic Orchestra and in 1957 he assumed the direction of the Teatro Colón, one of the most important theaters in the world. He developed an important pedagogical-musical work. He was also director of the National Radio Youth Choir in Buenos Aires.

He was the author of more than sixty books on music (among them ``The Wonderful World of Music´´ dedicated to children) and related subjects, among which is a World Encyclopedia of Music.
