Korarchaeia

ImprimirCitar

Korarchaeia or Korarchaeota is a class of archaea. They were initially identified from samples of 16S rRNA genomic sequences collected in natural environments, analysis of which suggested that these Archaea were part of a different phylum than the two already known. They have only been found in hydrothermal environments and in low abundance. They appear to diversify at different phylogenetic levels according to temperature, salinity (freshwater or marine), and geography.

Evidence has been found for energy conservation through methanogenesis and sulfur reduction in suboxygenic hydrothermal environments.
