Koltur (Danish: Kolter) is one of the 18 islands of the Faroe Islands archipelago, located in the Norwegian Sea. Her name means Foal, and she has always been related to the neighbor Hestur (whose translation is Horse).

In the past, the population became 50 inhabitants divided into two families that, curiously, had no communication between them (the causes of said confrontation are unknown). The island has a single population: Koltur. In the decade of the ' 80 all its inhabitants (mostly dedicated to sheep care) left the island. Since then only two people have returned. Koltur has a mountain: Kolturshamar (478 m).

In 1994 the Patursson family of the town of Kirkjubøur decided to return to the island with the aim of restoring one of the old settlements and trying to implement local livestock again. Another of its objectives is to try to promote rural tourism.

Although after the restoration made by the Patursson family, a small port was created, there is no ferry connection, so the only possible way to visit the island is through a helicopter, which performs the journey three times per week.
