Khulna
Khulna (Bengali: খুলনা) is the third largest city in Bangladesh, capital of the division of the same name.
Another name for Khulna is "the industrial city" or Shilpa Nagori (in Bengali Shilpa means industry and Nagori means city). Khulna was the backbone of the extinct East Pakistan. The only shipyard in the country is also located in Khulna. One of the largest forests in the world, the "Sundarban" (meaning 'jungle') and the country's second largest seaport located in Mongla makes Khulna a wealthy city surrounded by industry and a great natural setting.
In terms of education, Khulna has one of the best in the country. World-class universities for engineering or medical studies. There are many public libraries.
During the liberation war Khulna played a major role due to its proximity to the Indian border. Many of the great leaders were originally from Khulna. Today, Khulna is a metropolitan city with over one million inhabitants.
Although Khulna has always been a peaceful and pleasant city to live in, recently some radical groups have committed some terrorist acts, including banned communist party groups, causing Khulna to appear for a while in newspapers across the country.
