Complaints of sexual abuse

On October 30, 2017, in the context of the abuse scandal against producer Harvey Weinstein, fellow actor Anthony Rapp declared that in 1986, he had been abused, that is, sexually harassed by Spacey during a party held at his residence when Rapp was 14 years old. In response to these accusations, Spacey claimed that he had no recollection of behaving inappropriately and apologized if he had. In the same statement, Kevin Spacey publicly declared his homosexuality.Shortly after, he received multiple complaints of sexual abuse and rape both in the United States and in England.

From Rapp's statements, new similar accusations arose, such as that of Mexican actor Roberto Cavazos, who denounced that both he and other young actors had been harassed by Spacey when he was artistic director of the Old Vic Theater in London. In similar terms, several employees and former employees of the Netflix series House of Cards, in which Spacey starred and of which he was executive producer, point to him for crimes of the same nature. Harry Dreyfuss, son of actor Richard Dreyfuss, has also accused Spacey of groping him when he was 18 years old and in front of his father, who was unaware of what was happening. On November 3, 2017, Netflix announced that it was canceling all his commitments and projects with Spacey. Spacey announced his admission to The Meadows clinic in Arizona (USA) to undergo treatment for his addiction to sex. Due to this scandal, he was dropped from the cast of the movie All the Money in the World and was replaced by veteran actor Christopher Plummer.

On December 24, 2018, Spacey posted a video to his YouTube channel playing the character of Frank Underwood, his character from the series "House of Cards" who defends his innocence. Several actors criticized and ridiculed the video, including Patricia Arquette, Ellen Barkin, Jon Favreau, and Rob Lowe. Spacey appeared in the 2018 film Billionaire Boys Club (which had been completed before the accusations), which was released with no changes to his role.

In 2019 there was a sexual assault lawsuit filed by an unnamed masseur who died before trial. There was another sexual assault claim by Ari Behn, a Norwegian author and ex-husband of Princess Martha Louise of Norway, but in this case the complainant died by committing suicide before trial. Spacey was denounced by several men in England.

Trials in the United States and the United Kingdom

The legal battle in the United States against the actor began on January 7, 2019 over the accusation against Spacey for an alleged sexual assault in 2016 on an 18-year-old boy in a bar in Nantucket (Massachusetts), in a court of that locality. The actor is also being investigated in Los Angeles and in the United Kingdom for a dozen cases of sexual assault.

In his complaint, the young man admitted that he himself lied about his age, assuring that he was 23 years old. The young man posted a recording of part of the alleged sexual contact on the Snapchat social network and sent his girlfriend a video, which was later verified by the authorities. When Spacey's defense said he needed the complainant's phone to retrieve certain messages from deleted texts that would benefit the actor, the complainant denied having deleted anything. When Spacey's lawyer asked him if he was aware that erasing evidence is a crime, the young man invoked the fifth amendment, which exempts him from testifying against oneself. From that moment on, the complainant's testimony was dismissed by the judge and the accusation was filed. At the same time, the complainant withdrew a civil lawsuit that he had filed against the plaintiff for the same events.

In 2022, he was charged by Britain's Crown Prosecution Service with five counts of rape and sexual assault that occurred in London and Gloucestershire, England, following a London Metropolitan Police review of evidence, for allegations dating from 2005 to 2013. Kevin Spacey says he would voluntarily appear in the UK to face sexual assault charges.

In June 2022, in the UK, Spacey was granted unconditional bail after appearing in a London court on four counts of sexually assaulting three men. In addition, she faced a fifth count of causing a man to engage in penetrative sexual activity without his consent.

In October 2022, in the United States, Kevin Spacey was found not guilty of abusing Anthony Rapp.

In November 2022, the actor was charged with a further seven sexual offences, the UK Public Prosecutor's Office announced.

Spacey once described Clinton as "one of the brightest lights" In the political process, she also made a cameo in the short film "President Clinton: Final Days," a light-hearted political satire produced by the Clinton administration for the White House Correspondents' Dinner.
