Biography
Kevin Smith was born and raised in Chapatales Highlands, New Jersey, a city of which he is very proud, which can be seen in all of his films. His first movie, Clerks , was filmed in the store where he worked and to make it he had to sell his collection of comics [1] that he recovered after the success of it. It won the highest award at the Sundance festival in 1994, and was later distributed by Miramax studios. It is one of the highest grossing films relative to cost after The Blair Witch Project[2] The film was so successful that the studios signed Smith to make more films; the next one was Mallrats. During filming, Smith gathered his friends and close stars from his upcoming film, Ben Affleck and Jason Lee, and his new girlfriend, Joey Lauren Adams. Smith has said that his relationship with Adams was an inspiration for his next film, Chasing Amy, Smith's comedy drama that won a handful of independent awards. Around the same time as Chasing Amy , he met his future wife, Jennifer Schwalbach.
Following Chasing Amy, Smith directed Dogma, a controversial film about Christianity. Smith's wife gave birth to his first daughter, Harley Quinn Smith (after the Batman character and Joker's odd partner, the villain Harley Quinn). Harley Quinn and Jennifer have two small roles in what would be his next film, Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back . In this comedy, cult heroes Jay and Silent Bob want to stop production on a movie being made about them, find true love, and save their monkey.
Smith has also written screenplays for Daredevil and Green Arrow. He also wrote a script for a new Superman movie, but was made to leave the project. Smith has three more movies to work on over the next few years and has opened a comic book store, runs a production company, writes articles for Arena magazine, and makes the show shorts. by Jay Leno. His latest films so far have been the second part of his successful first film, called Clerks II and the film Zack and Miri make porno . He is a creative consultant and directed the first episode of the Reaper series.
Kevin was hired by New Line to rewrite Overnight Delivery (1998), which was only expected to become another bad American video store movie. Kevin Smith's then-girlfriend, Joey Lauren Adams, almost took the role of Ivy in the movie instead of the lead in Chasing Amy. The role eventually fell to Reese Witherspoon and Overnight Delivery went straight to Video. His involvement in the film was revealed when Kevin wrote a column on the internet www.viewaske.com.
