Kawaguchi (Saitama)
Kawaguchi (川口市, Kawaguchi-shi?>) is a city on the southern border of Saitama Prefecture, Japan. It is the second city in Saitama Prefecture by population, just behind the capital, Saitama. Due to its location next to the Arakawa River, the natural boundary of Tokyo Prefecture, many of its inhabitants come to Tokyo daily to work or enjoy leisure.
The development of Kawaguchi was due to the metal industry. Today the metallurgical industry is still present, although its importance is much less, giving way to culture and services as main economic activities. Potted plants and flowers from the Angyo district, northeast of Kawaguchi, are famous throughout Japan.
Kawaguchi's flower is the lily, known for its brilliance and purity. The word lily (in English), gives its name to the Kawaguchi Center for Cultural Activities and Performing Arts "LILIA"
The city was founded on April 1, 1933.
