Kase.O
Javier Ibarra Ramos (Zaragoza, Spain, March 1, 1980), better known by his stage name Kase.O, is a rapper, composer and producer. Spanish, member of the Spanish rap group Violadores del Verso along with fellow rappers SHO-HAI and Lírico, and DJ R from Rumba.
He is usually considered one of the best-known Spanish-speaking rappers by the community and the media. He has been active since 1993 to the present, being an icon and benchmark of Spanish rap.
Kase.O throughout his career, he came to release up to seven studio albums with Violadores del Verso from 1998 to 2006.
Then, in 2011, he released «Kase.O Jazz Magnetism» solo, an album that blends hip hop and jazz, remastering some hits from Zaragoza and creating new ones together with the band Jazz Magnetism. In 2015 he released Previo, a preview of his LP due out the following year. In 2016 he would release what was his greatest single success, El Círculo, nominated on multiple occasions including the Latin Grammys, assuming a revelation for rap and gold record winner, an award previously received with Violadores del Verso.
Biography
Beginnings and Verse Violators
Kase.O began in the world of rap influenced by his older brother Brutal, who was part of the group Gangsta Squad. Thus, at the age of 13, he released his first demo on cassette tape, Rompecabezas , which would attract the attention of his contemporaries in Zaragoza. Two years later, he published his second release, Dos Rombos , which included I am from Aragón , one of the songs for which he would be most recognized not only in Zaragoza but also in the Hip-Hop scene in Spain. From this date, and in his own works, Gangsta Squad and Bufank, various collaborations with Sho-Hai, Lírico and R de Rumba were already appreciated, with whom he would end up forming the group Violadores del Verso.
Violadores del Verso (also known as Doble V), was the group in which Kase-O reached maturity as an MC and international fame. With the group he released three LPs, maxis and DVD of concerts, being, in the latter, the first Spanish rap group to do so. In addition, in 1998 he released the maxi single Violadores del Verso presenta a Kase-O en: Mierda, which contained the song of the same name that settled his "beef" with Metro by Geronación and the song Mc, among many other Spanish hip hop hits.
Since 2009 the group has been inactive. However, each member has devoted himself to producing solo works, having already released the works of Hate (Doble Vida and La Última Función), Lírico (Un before and after) and RdeRumba (Back in the studio: remixes and rarities and Funk Experience).
Jazz Magnetism and solo album
In 2009, before preparing his solo album, Kase-O began a tour with a jazz band that took him to numerous cities in the country. The great acceptance by the public helped the idea of materializing the project to come true years later.
At the end of the tour in 2012, Kase.O decided to record this by capturing the energy and concept of the live shows with the band on a new album that recycled old lyrics by the artist incorporating organic instrumentals. The album includes fifteen versions of classic songs and collaborations that bring their production closer to jazz, with collaborations by R de Rumba, Kamikaze (CPV) and Jonás Santana. The recording and mixing of the work was done at Estudios Kikos, while the mastering was done by Gonzalo Lasheras at Estudios Roncesva. Both the album and the group during their tours received positive reviews from different media outlets.
The group mixed bases typical of Jazz, with improvisations and vocal contributions from Kase-O, being made up of artists Hugo Astudillo also known as "Escandaloso Xpósito" (sax), Dani Comas (guitar), Juan Pablo Balcazar (electric bass and double bass) and Dani Domínguez (drums). They began a tour in 2009, with amazing success for a band that at that time did not have their own album.
Finally, in the summer of 2015, Kase.O announced new dates to close the concerts with the band while presenting his new solo project. Said project had as an advance a maxi-single of 3 tracks plus remixes and instrumentals called Previo made up of the songs Tutorial (a.k.a. Casino), Repartiendo Arte (released on September 11, 2015), and Hardcore Funk, with their respective video clips in the case of the last two.
The Circle
Presented on September 15 at the Círculo de Bellas Artes and launched worldwide on September 23, 2016, Kase.O returns to the solo scene after having published his last work in 2011. In this case 'El Círculo ' has 17 tracks, of which 'Repartiendo Arte' had been included in their 2015 Maxi single Previo, an 'intro', an 'outro' and two interludes. Of the 12 remaining cuts, Kase.O adds collaborations from other artists such as Xhelazz, Shabu One, Hermano L or Najwa, as well as a song with the rest of the cast of Violadores del Verso MCs ('Gifted Rap'), including a Remix of the theme 'Viejos Ciegos' forms part as a bonus track. Kase.O stated during the press conference that "The Circle could be his last record".
The album arises after an internal process of the artist during his four-year stay in Colombia, in which, among other topics, he talks about the depression he has gone through to get to make the album and that can be seen latent in the track number 16 called Basureta (Weird Times). This track was the subject of an accusation of plagiarism by the artist, also from Zaragoza, Rafael Lechowski and his work Quarcissus, an accusation that was answered with a resounding denial by the accused artist.
The production of the album has had the presence of R de Rumba (DJ of Violadores del Verso), Gonzalo Lasheras (Luis Eduardo Aute, Iván Ferrerio or Jorge Drexler), Judge One, Crudo Means Raw, Big Hozone, Diego Lino, the archaeologist and Kase.O himself, also known as Javato Jones. The edition is carried out by Rap Solo producciones.
The single that opened the album Esto no para was published on September 15, 2016 on his official YouTube account, receiving more than 1 million views after the first week. The video that illustrates the theme uses a mixture of kinetic text on historical-war, political and Turkish dance images, made by Joan Molins. In the words of Kase.O, the video represents a pseudo-mystical fable that describes contemporary humanity. The base belongs to the late Zaragoza, Cash Flow.
The artist's first live-action music video is Yemen, released on October 6, 2016 and directed by Michael Glückstern (Tom's Dilemma). In the video, the alchemist aesthetic is mixed and represented, with steampunk and the current image of the artist, as well as the number three as the axis: 3 characters, 3 locations, 3 times, being track 3 of the album.[ citation required]
Secret Origins
In 2020 he made an original song for the soundtrack of the movie Orígenes Secretos by David Galán Galindo. It is a collaboration with Elphomega with production by R De Rumba and choirs by Klau Gandía and Carlos Porcel, who also arranged some of the song's arrangements. The collaboration between the rapper from Zaragoza and the man from Malaga arose at the request of the director himself, who is recognized as a follower of rap in Spanish.
Controversies
In 2020 he starred in various controversies in the media regarding the possible adverse effects of vaccines. These types of comments occurred during the Covid-19 pandemic, for which he was the subject of a multitude of criticisms that made him correct his statement and apologize publicly, although he continues to maintain his right to doubt the vaccine.
Indefinite retirement
On June 27, 2022, he announced his indefinite retirement from the stage as of March 2023.
Aliases
Since he began his artistic career, Kase.O has done a multitude of collaborations, in which he has used other alternative aliases to his stage name Kase.O. He gave himself that alias since the letters K, A, S and E were good letters to move within the scope of graffiti, and later he added the O. Another of his aliases with which he refers to himself is Fuck ass Ibarra. Another rumor circulates on the Internet that his alias comes from the well-known watch brand & # 34; Casio & # 34;, but he himself denied it in an interview conducted in 2008 by Hip Hop Nation magazine. Other known aliases of the artist are; Versatile , his fourth alias, used in his collaboration on the album & # 34; Supervillains for Hire & # 34; by Hablando en Plata, Javat used on the album "Block massacre" by Dogma Crew and on R de Rumba's LP, and Javato Jones on the demo "Ahuizote" from (Paul, 2005). In his song & # 34; Javat and Kamel & # 34; refers to another nickname, No type of order. referring to his alias Kaos also named in the song & # 34; Only rap matters & # 34;, by Violadores del Verso and Xhelazz, and in & # 34; Hip Hop Laboratory & # 3. 4; of Rapists with Supernafamacho. In addition, in the topic Javat and Kamel he also hints that another of his aliases is Palmera, or " The palm tree that bends but endures the hurricane". After his appearance at the Azuara fiestas, where he sang his songs together with the Charanga (such as "Cantando", from his stage in Violadores del Verso) he is also known by the title of "El rey of rural rap".
