Recent History
When the Karbi ethnic group claimed autonomy in the Anglong district in Assam, the communists in the region formed an organization called Peoples Democratic Front (PDF, 1985) to guide the struggle for autonomy for revolutionary roads. His candidate for the elections of the state of Asam, Holiram Terang, obtained a seat, being the first time that a member of the Communist Party of India-Marxist-Leninista-Popular Guerra entered a Parliament. The demand for autonomy became greater in Anglong and in the neighboring district of North Cachar Hills and therefore the PDF was renamed Autonomous State Demand Comitte (ASDC) beating in the 1989 elections in the Anglong district. In 1991, ASDC obtained all the district seats in the legislative elections of ASAM and later a member of the organization, Jayanta Rongpi, obtained a nationwide seat, a seat that he kept in 1996 and 1998. In the 1996 elections in Assam The ASDC obtained the four seats from the Anglong district and one in North Cachar Hills, where the same year he won the victory in the district elections with the Congress Party.
