Kankuro
Kankurō (カンクロウ, Kankurō?) is a fictional character from the manga and anime Naruto, created by Masashi Kishimoto. Coming from the Hidden Sand Village, middle son of the Fourth Kazekage and brother of Gaara and Temari, who are also his teammates under Baki's command. He actively participated in the invasion mission to the Hidden Leaf Village. His name comes from some kabuki actors from Japan.
Personality
In the early part of the series, a notable trait of Kankuro's personality is his obvious dislike of children, first seen when he tried to attack Konohamaru for bumping into him. This marks many of his interactions with other characters, as he is noticeably irritated with someone younger than himself. Clearly, this aversion towards children is due to the fear that Gaara's younger sister inspired in him, demonstrated when Kankuro is forced to give in to Gaara on several occasions in an argument.
Despite their apparent differences, Gaara and Kankuro become very close, shown when Gaara begins to trust his brother and shares with him his dreams of wanting to risk his life to protect the Hidden Sand Village. After that, Kankuro becomes very protective of Gaara, willing to challenge anyone who puts Gaara in danger. When Gaara was captured by the Akatsuki, Kankuro rushed to his brother's aid in an attempt to save him, but was quickly defeated by Sasori; when he was able to fight again he joined Temari in searching for Gaara. Once they found him, Kankuro pulled Naruto aside to thank him for rescuing his brother.
In the original, Kankuro speaks with a distinctive Yokohama accent. He is often heard ending his sentences with & # 34; jaan & # 34;, a catchphrase used in Japan by members of street gangs (very common, it seems, in Yokohama), which gives him a tough air and sardonic when speaking
History
Chunin Exam
Kankurō and his brothers, Gaara and Temari, plus their sensei Baki, took the Chūnin Exam in order to support the attack on the Hidden Village of Konoha by the Hidden Village of Sand and the Hidden Village of Sound believing that they were following orders from the Kazekage, who in truth had been assassinated and impersonated by Orochimaru. Before the exam he had a fight with Konohamaru, Naruto intervening and being easily contained by Kankuro with a Chakra thread. During the level one written test of the Chunin Exam he made use of his puppet, disguised as one of the examiners, to get the exam answers, which he then passed on to Temari (all of this was observed by Ibiki Morino, but he decided not to intervene).. In the Third Stage preliminaries he faced Misumi Tsurugi, whom Kankuro easily defeated by substituting his body for his puppet Karasu when his opponent had blocked him and then breaking his bones. His next opponent in the Third Stage of the Chūnin Exam would be Shino Aburame but Kankurō decided not to fight (because no one should see the weapons that Kankuro put on Karasu for the invasion of Konoha) and was declared defeated.
Invasion of Konoha
During the invasion of Konoha, he and Temari took Gaara into the forest, since his control of the Bijū was very unstable. During this escape he met and faced Shino Aburame, who was his rival in the Chūnin Exam. Although Kankuro's aggressive and deceptive tactics gave him the tactical advantage, the battle ended in a draw when Shino managed to use Kankuro's insects to counter the puppeteer's attacks and absorb his chakra, leaving himself poisoned by one of the puppeteer's techniques. Kankuro. After the failure of the attack on Konoha, Kankuro and his team returned to his village.
Sasuke's Chase
Later, he participated with his brothers in a mission helping the Konoha Genin who were looking for Sasuke Uchiha, during this mission he saved Kiba Inuzuka from one of Orochimaru's servants, Sakon and Ukon, and cruelly killed him with his technique "Iron Lady."
Gaara's Kidnapping
After 2 and a half years, he became a jounin like his sister Temari and fought against Sasori (inside the Hiruko puppet) to save the new Kazekage who had been kidnapped, Gaara, but lost by being poisoned. Before falling unconscious he discovers Sasori's true identity, that of the genius puppet maker from the Hidden Sand Village that he was long ago, and that he made the puppets used by Kankuro. Despite this, thanks to the arrival of Naruto and company at the Village, they managed to save him by testing Sakura's medical knowledge. Kankuro managed to tear off a piece of Sasori's clothing which he gave to Kakashi for the Ninken to track. Shortly after recovering, he joined a rescue party from the Arena to find Gaara. After he revived, he carried him on Naruto's shoulders to his village. He then thanked Naruto for everything they had done for them.
The meeting of the 5 Kages
Several chapters later he is seen again when Gaara is called for the meeting that will take place in the Land of Iron. At the meeting he is seen on a balcony with Temari and the other Kage bodyguards watching their conversation. In a moment of the Raikage's lack of control, all the bodyguards go out to stop him before he attacks the Kage that each one protects, and at that moment Kankuro shows his new puppet which is Sasori's old puppet body, which Sakura and Chiyo left behind in the Akatsuki's lair when they went to rescue Gaara. He doesn't use his puppet, as the moderator stops things and Gaara orders him and Temari back to his place. After Gaara, Darui and the two of them watch as Sasuke breaks in, they attack him with their techniques and he stops them with his Susanoo, causing the roof of the room to collapse and requiring Gaara's sand help to get out of there. The Kages then find the guards attached to the ceiling by Zetsu's technique, and Kankuro is called upon to bring them down with his chakra strings.
The Fourth Ninja War
At the start of the Fourth Ninja War, Kankuro is appointed leader of the ambush squad, the first advance party, consisting of himself, Omoi, Sai, and several others. In the course of preparations, Kankuro's squad is confronted by the revived Deidara, Sasori, and other ninja and fights against them, in what Kankuro calls an ambush squad matchup. During it, Omoi cuts Sasori's chakra threads, an event that Kankuro takes advantage of to connect his own with the cut ends of the Akatsuki's to pull him and attract him to the battlefield. Sasori praises Kankuro's abilities and draws one of his revived allies to use as a puppet, while Kankuro summons Sasori's artificial body, shocking it.
The fight between the two is interrupted when Deidara throws Shin at them, loaded with explosive clay, but Kankuro prevents the explosion by locking him in Sanshoo's dome to contain the shock wave. Sai then draws two ink oni who catapult Deidara and Sasori into Kankuro's Kurorari puppets, where they are trapped, ending the match. Kankuro then explains to Sasori that his true strength was in her soul, which he tried to withdraw from her by turning into a puppet to achieve eternity; but that, having recovered his original body upon reviving, he had allowed himself to be manipulated. Having realized that eternity lies in his creations, Sasori disappears as his soul is released, but not before entrusting her parents' puppets to Kankuro. After that, Kankuro's squad resumes preparations for the ambush.
Skills
Kankuro is a skilled puppeteer, indicated when a master like Sasori praised his skills. Apparently, Kankuro is physically strong enough to carry his bandage-wrapped Karasu puppet on his back at all times; he would later add Kuroari in the same mode of transportation. In the second part, Kankuro carries three scrolls used to summon the total of three puppets he currently controls. Because puppeteers focus on long range, Kankuro is not very skilled in close combat, something he complements with his deceptive fighting tactics, including using poison on almost all of his weapons and disguising his puppets. Like the same.
Puppets
Throughout the series, Kankuro displays three puppets, all of which are Sasori's original creations. All three are destroyed in the battle with Sasori, though Kankuro later rebuilds them; likewise, he modifies Sasori's artificial body to use it as another puppet. It is known that he has at least one more not shown, as in Gaara's rescue he appears carrying an unidentified puppet on his back, before Sasori was defeated.
Karasu
Karasu (烏, Crow?) was the first puppet shown by Kankuro. She is humanoid in appearance, having four extendable arms and three eyes; Seen in the written test for the chunnin exam, one of her eyes is equipped with something resembling a telescopic sight, used by Kankuro with unknown methods for espionage. In addition, he has on his chin the kanji 烏 ( Crow ), which gives him his name.
Karasu is the puppet in charge of the attack, and is equipped with multiple weapons: blades on her forearms, abdomen, and the base of her neck; kunai launchers in the mouth and senbon needles in the wrists; a drill in the mouth, usually used when the head has been severed from the body; and poison gas bomb launchers on the inside of the arms. Most of the weapons are poisoned, being able to cause great wear and tear on the opponent with a single wound. If the puppet is immobilized or destroyed, or required for any of his techniques, Karasu can be disassembled to individually handle each piece.
Kuroari
Kuroari (黒蟻, Black Ant? ) is the second puppet to be shown by Kankuro. Her appearance is less humanoid than Karasu's, as she has a cylindrical head with two red horns and three eyes, six arms, and a wide expandable barrel-shaped abdomen, inside which she is capable of enclosing her opponent.
Kuroari's task is to trap the enemy, so she is equipped with fewer weapons than Karasu: saw blades on the inside of her arms, senbon needle launchers on her arms, and blades on her limbs. She is normally used in tandem with Karasu, as once she has trapped her enemy in her abdomen, the slits she possesses in it allow her to be attacked by Karasu using the blades on her body.
During the Fourth Ninja War, Kankuro uses two Kuroari puppets simultaneously.
Sanshōo
Sanshōuo (山椒魚, Salamander?) is the third Kankuro puppet. His appearance is very different from Karasu and Kuroari, as he is much larger than them and shaped like a giant salamander, having a protruding jaw and a deployable steel structure on his back.
Although its abilities are not shown in the manga, it is supposed to be used for defense, being portrayed in the anime for that purpose. Her displayed ability of her is to raise a trapezoidal steel wall on her back capable of unfolding into a dome shape to accommodate Kankuro and two other people. This shelter seems to be of great resistance, since it withstood the demolition of a cave above it without damage. According to Sasori, and as shown in Kankuro's fight against him, her weak spot is in her neck.
Sasori
The fourth puppet wielded by Kankuro is none other than Sasori's artificial body, salvaged from the battle between Chiyo and Sakura. In this version, the puppet continues to be equipped with the arm's flamethrower, rotating blades, and cord poisoned, though useless parts like Sasori's heart container have been removed. Kankuro also incorporated a chakra shield and several bomb launchers on his arms and neck.

Features
- Kankuro's character seems to be an allusion to performing arts. It usually wears a black hood with two tips similar to cat ears. This, as well as its predominantly black clothing, is an allusion to the Bunraku, the puppet theatre of Japan. Purple painting of his face, varied in design on many occasions, is another script to the Japanese theater, where facial painting is frequent; according to the code of meanings of the colors of painting in that art, purple means nobility and elevation.
- Kankuro was voted to position 19 in the popularity ranking of characters Naruto.
