Kalashnikov is commonly used to refer to:

  • AK-47 or some other series rifle designed by Mikhail Kaláshnikov or manufactured by Kalashnikov Corporation.
  • Rifle Kalashnikov, family of assault rifles based on the original design of Mikhail Kaláshnikov.
  • Mikhail Kaláshnikov (1919-2013), Russian light weapons designer, notable for designing the AK-47 assault rifle.
  • Kalashnikov Corporation, the name adopted by Izhmash in 2013, the manufacturer of the AK-47 series.
  • Vyacheslav Kalashnikov Polishchuk (1955-), mathematician, professor and Russian researcher based in Mexico.

Etymology

From Russian Калашников, a Sandhi alteration of the older Калачников , literally meaning "belonging to (usually "son of" or "place of") a man making a traditional Slavic bread called kalach", i.e., "the son of the kalach".
