Contenido Kaiser (< German Kaiser < Old High German Keisar < Gothic *Kaisar < Latin Caesar ['Caesar, emperor'])? is the German title that means emperor. Its female equivalent (empress) is Kaiserin.
Usually, when talking about the Kaiser in other languages, it usually refers to one of the following:
- Emperor of Germany (Deutscher Kaiser);
- Austrian Emperor (Kaiser von Österreich);
- Emperor of the Holy Germanic Roman Empire (Römisch-deutscher Kaiser).
However, in German, the word Kaiser serves in a generic sense for any emperor. For example, to designate the emperor of China, the expression Chinesischer Kaiser or Kaiser von China is used.
