Kagome Higurashi
Kagome Higurashi (日暮かごめ, Higurashi Kagome?) (renamed as Aome in the Mexican dubbing of the anime for reasons of cacophony) is a fictional character and the protagonist of the anime and manga series Inuyasha, created by Rumiko Takahashi. Inuyasha is her love interest (at the beginning and end of the manga and anime) and her husband (at the end of the manga and anime).
The anime version of the series receives much criticism regarding the variation in the original personalities of Kikyō and Kagome, being the first shown in a much more frivolous and cruel version; and the second more childish than the one shown in the manga.
Character Information
Her name means shining pearl or sacred pearl since the name Ka-go-me comes from the Shikon no Tama, because when Kagome's mother took her in her arms she saw a shine on her chest, as much as a star.
Kagome is the eldest of the Higurashi siblings. She has a younger brother named Sōta. Her grandfather is the owner of a Shinto temple near Tokyo.
When she finds the well of time, she manages to make kekkei or also known as force fields, in addition to her old attacks such as: the purifying arrows, and to see the fragment of the pearl of Shikon no Tama (Kagome and Kikyo are the only ones who can do it).
He always helps people unconditionally, healing the wounds of the heart.
On her 15th birthday, she is dragged to Sengoku-period Japan by a half-woman, half-centipede monster, where she meets the elderly Kaede, who tells her that she looks a lot like her sister Kikyō. Kagome is the reincarnation of Kikyō. She later meets Inuyasha, the half-demon sealed in the sacred tree by Kikyo, who at first tries to kill her. Later they are both attacked by a raven demon and Kagome, when trying to retrieve the sphere, destroys it into several fragments. Together they try to find the pieces of the missing Jewel of the Four Souls (Shikon no Tama). Later they feel attraction between them.
As they travel they are joined by more companions, the first being Shippo, a little orphaned fox demon who feels very close to both of them. Later with Miroku, an attractive and libertine Buddhist monk, with whom they begin to look for Naraku. Finally, they are joined by Sango, the survivor of the demon slayer clan, and Kirara, a huge cat demon, who all fight against Naraku.
In episode 519 of the manga, the seal that prevents Kagome's powers from increasing is strengthened by Magatsuhi, an evil spirit born from the pearl, causing Kagome to lose even the powers she already had. Kaede believes that to break the seal they must destroy Magatsuhi.
Later, during the fight inside Naraku, Inuyasha and Sesshōmaru manage to combine their forces to destroy Magatsuhi, causing Kagome's seal to vanish and awaken the potential of her purifying powers, causing the light to return to life. appear in the Shikon no Tama (Pearl of Shikon). Without the seal, Kagome's powers become as strong as Kikyo's.
Finally, after an arduous fight, it is Kagome who deals the final blow to Naraku's soul, piercing the Shikon pearl with one of her arrows, but Naraku, before disappearing, reveals that he made a wish to the pearl, and Kagome is suddenly sucked into the Meido (due to Byakuya's earlier attack), but Inuyasha follows her. This causes the well to disappear, both in the present and in the past.
Kagome ends up floating in the dark alone and with the Shikon no Tama floating in front of her, still pierced by her arrow, and Inuyasha ends up inside the same pearl, where he sees Midoriko, the demons he's fighting, and Naraku., asleep in a deep sleep. The youkai reveal that the wish of the pearl (and that of Naraku himself) is for Kagome to make a wish so that she is trapped inside the pearl, fighting Naraku forever thereby replacing Midoriko.
The pearl tempts Kagome to want to see Inuyasha again, but Kagome, after hearing Inuyasha's voice, decides against it, and then Inuyasha manages to escape from the pearl and reunite with Kagome. They kiss (in the manga they just hug) and Kagome is filled with courage thanks to Inuyasha and makes a last wish to the Shikon pearl: that she disappear forever. The pearl purifies and vanishes, and the bone-eating pit appears, returning each to their respective time, though it is later blocked. Kagome realizes that it's because her feelings weren't entirely clear, but wanting to spend the rest of her life with Inuyasha and his friends, the well reconnects and she stays to live in the feudal age.
Appearance
Kagome looks like a young woman with brown eyes (gray in the manga), long black hair, and blue tones. Her appearance in the manga is quite similar to that of another character, the priestess Kikyo.
Clothing
As for her clothing. Kagome normally wears the common Japanese student attire, consisting of a long-sleeved blouse with green cuffs and neck crossed by a white line, she wears a red scarf tied around her neck; She wears a short green pleated skirt above her knees, her socks are white, and her shoes are plain brown. She used to go with these clothes to the ancient times and many times back, she must go to school with other clothes because her uniform has been stained or torn in battles.
Although there are also occasions when in her time she wears other kinds of clothing, such as pajamas or dresses.
In both the anime and manga endings, she usually wears a priestess outfit.
Romance
Kagome and Inuyasha met at a difficult time for him. Being the reincarnation of Kikyo, Inuyasha showed her suspicion, antipathy and hatred (because of what happened previously with the priestess). However, Kagome's naive and kind attitude towards Inuyasha dispelled his rude and surly attitude and they both begin to trust each other. As time goes by, Inuyasha begins to develop loving feelings towards her and Kagome ends up falling in love with him. They usually spend most of the time together, however, both have a somewhat childish and temperamental attitude so they often argue a lot, ending up with Inuyasha on the ground after the classic "Osuwari".
Inuyasha takes on a form of being protective of Kagome, which becomes somewhat obsessive. He never had anyone to take care of or protect her, so he tends to worry or despair when she's not by her side or when she falls into danger (it should be noted that Inuyasha overprotects her because he doesn't want her to die like he did). Kikyō). However, the fact that Kikyo appeared again complicates things, Inuyasha feels that he was to blame for her death and that he is committed to dying with her, so he cannot forget her. Kagome becomes depressed when she realizes that Inuyasha still loves Kikyō and sometimes thinks that it would be best if she went back to her world and let the two of them make her life. But she changes her mind because the only thing she wants to do, besides getting the shards of the Shikon Pearl, is to take care of Inuyasha since he is only strong when Kagome is by his side, even though he knows that this will end up hurting her more., but she doesn't care about any of that as long as she sees him happy. Kagome has other suitors as well: Koga; (which she appreciates very much) a character from the clan of wolves who kidnapped her, she confesses her love and her desire to make her her wife and kill Inuyasha so that he is the only man who dominate her heart. He often woos her by bringing her flowers, holding her hands or inquiring after her welfare; another suitor is from her time named Hōjō, her high school classmate, who is always worried about Kagome's health, she agrees to go out with him but feels nothing more than friendship. A third suitor is Hōjō Akitoki, who appears in the second film and in a few chapters of the anime, and is apparently an ancestor of the Hōjō from his time, who wishes to make her his wife.
Kagome loves Inuyasha so much that he still thinks about protecting and saving the soul of Kikyo, his first love and makes Kagome jealous in several episodes. Kagome believes that Inuyasha loves Kikyo more, however Inuyasha's feeling for her grows over the course of the series. On one occasion, Kagome realizes that despite the past that Kikyo had with him and the sacrifice she made for him, she knows Inuyasha much more and experienced many more things with him, thus overcoming her own insecurity.. They both fall in love, but they are too embarrassed to express it openly, despite the attitude of concern and affection of both towards the other that reveals their feelings. During the second movie, Kagome tells him that she likes her just the way she is, a hybrid, and gives him a kiss to prevent her from turning into a demon so that he will remember her and regain consciousness.
