Jungle wa itsumo Hare nochi Guu

Jungle wa itsumo Hale nochi Guu (ジャングルはいつもハレのちグゥ, Janguru wa itsumo Hare nochi Gū^?) is a Japanese animated series based on a manga published in the Gekkan Shōnen Gangan magazine.

The series consists of 26 episodes, in addition to two sequels, of 6 and 7 chapters respectively:

• Jungle wa itsumo Hale nochi Guu Deluxe
• Jungle wa Itsumo Hale nochi Guu Final

This surreal and comedic, sometimes serious series centers on the life of Hale, a 10-year-old boy living in the jungle, and his misadventures with Guu, a girl who appears overnight and who threatens to eat anyone who gets in his way. Inside it is a world full of buildings, surreal bugs, and a boy and a girl who have been eaten and live there.

Hale will face all odds taking care of his home and mother and solving all the trouble Guu gets him into.

Unlike the manga, which focuses more on Weda's (Hale's mother) dalliances, the anime emphasizes the "special" between Hale and Guu.

The title "Jungle wa itsumo Hale nochi Guu" it's hard to translate for non-Japanese, as the names of many of the characters are puns. A rough translation would be 'it was nice weather in the jungle...and then Guu came', and the expression would sound to a Japanese ear like a weather forecast.

Plot

Hale is an ordinary boy who lives with his mother and friends in a peaceful jungle village. One given night, Weda orders Hale to go look for bananas, after which he is devoured by a mysterious shadow and loses consciousness, upon waking up he convinces himself that it was all a dream. But when he returns to his house, he finds out that her mother has decided to welcome a little girl with white skin and pink hair named Guu into her home. From that day on, Hale's life changes dramatically, because the next day Guu is not the same kind and nice girl from the night before, now she has a strange expression on her face and has become a cruel and cynical prankster whose idea fun is making Hale's life miserable.

Hale feels an obligation to maintain order in his village, this is because he is the only person in the village who notices Guu's strange nature, and therefore, he is the only person who he relates the latest events (which are unusual) to Guu, who in everyone's eyes is still the sweet, kind and innocent girl Hale met the first day.

Jungle wa itsumo Hale nochi Guu Deluxe

Hale, Guu and Weda have returned to the jungle after their trip to the city and everything is as usual... except that the teacher is no longer Reiji-sensei, he was replaced by an attractive young woman named Yumi-sensei, the problem is that contrary to what her appearance suggests, Yumi-sensei has a very bad temper and seems to be in love with Hare.

Weda finds out that she is pregnant and given the situation, Dr. Clive asks her to marry him, Hale obviously objects but eventually he gets used to the idea; when Asio, Bell and Roberto find out, they make a kind of tournament in which they have to compete with Dr. Clive for Weda's love, in the end Weda marries Clive and gives birth to Ame after a problematic pregnancy (because had to stop drinking alcohol for a while).

Jungle wa itsumo Hale nochi Guu Final

Weda, Guu and Hare return to the town where Hale attends school and meets a very kind girl named Rita. In this OVA we learn a little more about Clive's past and his relationship with Hale improves a bit. Dama makes one last appearance... but this time she'll be as a blonde with a mission to accomplish in the village. although the end of it is inconclusive since at the end of the chapter weda decides to go to the city to take revenge on his brothers

Characters

• Guu (continued)

Guu's stomach is a world full of buildings, hundred-legged cats, and a kind couple who have been trapped there for a long time. Aside from Hale, no other character in the series seems to be aware of how strange Guu is. Only Hare realizes that the strange events that occur are her fault (except for Hale, everyone who is eaten by Guu and spat out believes they were 'dreaming'). There are many strange things that Guu can do: he can stretch his body, he has superhuman strength, he can breathe underwater, he can make people switch bodies, he can read minds, he can change his face (from a cute face to a very strange one)., which is apparently her normal face), and can also transform into an older version of herself. Guu is very loyal to Hale although she bothers and provokes him at the same time. All this and more make Guu a mystery, since not even the most basic things are known about her (what she is or where she comes from).

• Hale (gunshot)

He is a boy who is usually patient and sociable but is generally affected by Guu's habit of causing chaos, so he is prone to anxiety attacks and tantrums whenever Guu does something out of the ordinary (which is almost always). This is sometimes accompanied by a sudden downpour. Hare is often the target of Guu's constant teasing and teasing, and he is used by his mother to do housework.

• Weda (USD)

Weda is Hare's mother, she is very carefree, lazy and usually drinks a lot of alcohol, which is why Hare has to take care of her. At the age of 15, her father kicked her out of her house while she was pregnant (and probably for that reason) and went to live in the jungle, where he raised Hare all by herself. Sometimes it seems that the adult in the house is hers and not hers, since he is the one responsible for all the household chores and the one who has to worry about everything. Weda was the one who offered to have Guu in her house. Ever since she was kicked out of her house, she had a grudge against her mother, but later with Hare's help they were able to smooth things over. She is one of the best hunters in the village.

• Dr. Clive (crying)

He's the school doctor. Clive is a womanizer, for this reason he is very apathetic and rude to everyone in the jungle, unless they are women, to whom he is a completely different person, ie kind and friendly. He arrived from the city shortly after the series began, and had a "relationship" with him. with Weda when she was 14 years old from which, according to Weda, Hare is the fruit.. he Often argues with Hare (and Weda is often the center of these discussions). He had a very sad childhood, he had no father and his mother treated him badly from an early age.

• Ame

He is Hare's little brother, born in Hare nochi Guu Deluxe and as Hare feared, Ame's care depends almost solely on him (although sometimes the people who live inside Guu help him). He is kidnapped by the older version of Guu (whose will is independent of the original Guu) but it was because he wanted Tomoyo, Seiichi and Yamada to be happy. He is the reason why Hare and Dr. Clive improve their father-son relationship, as they were worried that Ame would be negatively affected by his constant fighting.

• Marii (singing)

A classmate at the school where Hare and Guu attend. She is quite a dramatic girl and she loves to sew and make dresses. Marie is very attached to Hare and has a special affection for Weda due to the fact that she did not have a mother and she imagines Dr. Clive (her father figure of hers) as part of that "family".

• Reiji-sensei/Lazy-Sensei (oxidated)

Reiji is the teacher of all the students in the school. He likes to stay up at night to watch anime and for this reason he always falls asleep during the day. Since the school has almost no students, everyone is in Reiji's class, but because Reiji sleeps all the time, his students don't learn much.

• Chourou(Both music)

(voiced by: Tesshō Genda)

Chorou is an elderly man with abundant chest hair, which he perceives as a sign of his strength and masculinity, and which is always being stolen from him by Guu. Because he is the elder of the village, he is the one who leads the pokute hunts and has many culinary recipes in which he uses pokutes as ingredients, according to him this is the reason why he has so much hair on his chest. There comes a time when the hair grows so much that he covers it completely and only his head can be seen.

• Toposte (counseling)

Toposte is Chourou's grandson and like him, he doesn't wear a shirt. Initially he doesn't have chest hair like his grandfather's, but his fears come true when he starts growing hair too, though he hides it. He is also a student at the school.

• Wiggle (numbers)

One of the older students at school. He is madly in love with Weda, but can never prove his love for her, which usually results in an attempt to hang himself. When he found out that Weda and Clive were getting married he had a crisis but then it passed because according to him Weda was more attractive as a married woman.

• Gupta (counseling)

(voiced by: Souichiro Hoshi)

Another of the older students at school. He is quite impulsive and does not like Dr. Clive enough, because of the way he treats men. He hates horror stories and is very afraid of Dama (since he didn't dare cut her hair with her, he let it grow long).

• Waji (urge)

(voiced by: Daisuke Kishio)

A student who always laughs when he talks and tries to get Guu to do the same, with questionable results.

• Lavenna (.)

(voiced by: Yuri Shiratori)

She is the oldest student (of the girls) in the school. She is a bit air headed and unsure of herself.

• Lady

(voiced by: Chie Koujiro)

An old woman (and the village hairdresser) who constantly harasses Clive because his white hair reminds him of her late husband (although in every other way they are completely different), the "problem" is fixed after Clive dyes his hair black. She remarries the man who took Weda, Hare and Guu hostage in a bank robbery but Hare nochi Guu Ending, Dama explains that she was unfaithful to her husband with a man who turned out to be a murderer who used the women to do their dirty work, it was this man who Weda's brothers commissioned to assassinate her and he in turn commissioned Dama, but when he went to fulfill his mission, Robert made him reconsider. During all this time she imagined herself as a sexy blonde and apparently that was the image that others saw.

• Adi and Chet

A loving couple who lives together, they are extremely affectionate. When they fight Adi tells him about her "problems" to Weda, who is fed up with the constant fights, which are exaggerated and always end with some romantic line from Chet.

• Asio (c)

He is a servant in the household of Weda's family, who thinks of him as a brother. His strange eyes are his most prominent feature and make him the butt of much ridicule. He is usually hit by Bell when she has violent outbursts or when he gets very affectionate with Weda.

• Bell(isolation)

(voiced by: Mari Yooko)

She is another servant, she is a bit violent and considers herself as Weda's second mother, every time she remembers Weda's childhood she gets a nosebleed. Bell's strange fascination with Weda could suggest a crush. She tries to teach Hare some manners.

• Robert

(voiced by: Shoutarou Morikubo)

He's in charge of security at Weda's family's house and he's her bodyguard, he's quite paranoid and that's why he's always shooting innocent people. He came to the city after finishing university, but he was disoriented and was welcomed by Bell who got him to work as a bodyguard in the mansion, for this Robert admires her a lot and considers her a role model. He didn't know Weda and from Bell's descriptions he imagined her to be refined and delicate, so he was a bit disappointed to meet her, but later concluded (wrongly) that the way Weda behaves is a way to mislead her.

• Seiichi and Tomoyo

A very friendly couple who have lived in Guu's stomach for a long time, but don't seem to care much for them. When they need Hare, Guu swallows him so he can talk to them, plus they help Hare by babysitting when he can't take care of his little brother.

• Yamada

(voiced by: Ayumi Furuyama)

A 22-year-old girl who ends up living in Guu's stomach with Seiichi and Tomoyo, she is quite dramatic and violent. After her boss left her, she attempted suicide by throwing herself into the sea (but with the intention of becoming a ghost and stalking her boss from the other world), but she is swallowed by Guu. Hare convinces him that her life is important and gives him back the will to live.

• Yumi-sensei

She is the teacher who replaces Reiji-Sensei in Deluxe. She is infatuated and very aggressive, besides, she always has fits of anger, she has no patience with children and says that she hates them (even though she is a teacher). She has never had a boyfriend (probably due to her bad temper) and at first she seems to like Reiji-sensei but being rejected she falls in love with Hare. Her personality is similar to Yamada's.

• Rebecca (Signed)

She is Weda's neighbor and party partner, she loves to drink alcohol as much as she does. She was raised by Pokutes.

• Rita (GRUNTING)

She is the first person Hare meets at the town college and is the one who decides to stay for a while longer. At first she seems to be a nice girl but later she confesses to Hare that she only does it to look good to others, even so he insists that they are friends, in the end, when Hare has to return to the jungle Rita goes to the airport to say goodbye to him

• Sharon

She is Weda's mother. When Weda's father disinherited her and kicked her out of her home 10 years ago, her mother was not able to stand up to her husband and defend her from her, for this reason Weda held a grudge against her mother. When Hare visits the city for the first time, he gets lost in the mansion's garden and meets a lady who turned out to be nothing more and nothing less than his grandmother, she talks to him about her children and especially about her youngest daughter who left a long time ago. many years and with whom he has lost contact (Weda), Hare deduces the identity of the lady but still does not tell her anything, before returning to the jungle Hare talks to his grandmother and Weda and after this they reconcile. Sharon goes back to living in the main mansion after this.

• Weda's brothers

Weda had mentioned to Hare that he had siblings and Weda's mother had also said that she had three sons of whom the two eldest had married, but they did not make an appearance until Hare nochi Guu Final. Very little is known about them, apparently the man is the older of the two. Weda's sister and brother hire an assassin to kill her when they learn that her father's will names Weda as the sole heir to all of her fortune.

• Pokute (darling)

They are abundant creatures in the jungle and are sometimes seen in people's homes. The pokute were supposedly sent from heaven as protectors, but are still used as a source of food by the villagers.

• Manda

They are a kind of plant-animals stuffed with jam, they are also eaten by the villagers. As seen in the JWI Hale nochi Guu chapter 4 finale, they have to be caught before they are too ripe as they then explode.
