Julio César Dely Valdés (Colón, March 12, 1967) is a former Panamanian soccer player and coach who has become a Spanish national, brother of the soccer players Jorge and Armando Dely Valdés. He was named best Panamanian soccer player of the century XX . His best quality was his header and he played as a striker.

Career

He made his football debut at Atlético Colón in Panama. He tried out for Argentinos Juniors but did not stay in the team and went to Deportivo Paraguayo, which played in First D. After one season, he took a big leap by joining Nacional of Uruguay.

His magnificent performance in Nacional made many European clubs notice him, forming part of teams such as Cagliari in Italy, Paris Saint-Germain in France, as well as Real Oviedo and Málaga CF in Spain. After playing in Spain he returned to Nacional and finally concluded his career playing for Arabe Unidos de Colón.

Won the 1992 Uruguayan First Division Championship with Nacional. In Europe he won the European Cup Winners' Cup with PSG and the Intertoto Cup with Málaga CF. He is the top scorer in the history of Málaga CF in the First Division of Spain, where he formed a legendary pair of attackers with the Uruguayan Darío Silva, a forward known as the Double D .

In his entire career he scored more than 200 goals, of which 110 were scored at Nacional de Montevideo, becoming one of the club's most important players in the 1990s along with Hugo De León, Rubén Sosa, among others.

He is one of the greatest historical scorers of the Panama soccer team. He participated in the qualifying phases for the Soccer World Cup from 1990 to 2006. He performed with the Panama team in the 2005 Gold Cup, where he achieved runner-up status, the greatest achievement of Panamanian soccer in its history. He announced his retirement at the end of the final hexagonal towards the World Cup in Germany in 2006, where Panama was in last position, coached by José & # 34; Cheché & # 34; Hernandez.

Subsequently, he was the second coach of Málaga CF for two years. He left the position on June 16, 2010, due to the arrival of the new owner of Málaga CF, the Qatari Sheikh Abdullah ben Nasser Al Thani and after the structuring of the club.

On September 14, 2010, after several meetings of the Panamanian Football Federation, the so-called G-9 chose by majority vote Julio César Dely Valdés as coach of the Panamanian football team for a ten-month contract to direct the team for the UNCAF Champions Cup and the Concacaf Gold Cup. This contract has an extension depending on the team's results, it can be extended for the 2014 Soccer World Cup qualifiers that begin in the year 2011. Seeing the good results in the 2011 Central American Cup and the performance he played during the 2011 Concacaf Gold Cup, his contract was extended, subsequently leading Panama to the home run of the second round of the World Cup qualifiers. Concacaf Soccer 2014 with Nicaragua and Dominica (Bahamas declined its participation due to economic difficulties in its Federation), after which the undefeated Panama team qualified for the next round where it faced a home run with Honduras, Canada and Cuba. It classified the Panamanian team to the final hexagonal of Concacaf in second place below Honduras and leaving the Cuban and Canadian teams eliminated. After the failure of the Panamanian team to qualify for the 2014 World Cup and the expiration of the contract as Technical Director of the Panama National Team, Dely Valdés leaves his native country again and Hernán Darío Gómez is hired as the new one to replace him. He is currently studying to continue training as a coach in Spain.
